Not trying to flame about the price increases, but to ask a simple, genuine question. At what point will you guys deem the hobby too expensive, and leave?

Edit: I guess I should clarify. The question should really be phrased, "At what point will you stop buying GW products? When..."

My limit was a box of 10 Battle Sisters for 20 pounds. The embargo puts GW well over that limit.

When a box of Ten 5pt each Guardsmen becomes £18.50!!

Why would you leave the hobby, vice changing who you buy from, what you buy or what games you play?

Plenty of fantastic figures out there for some great games if you can break away from limiting yourself to a single company...

By the Hobby I think the OP Means the "GW Hobby" as they have clamped down more and more on it being their hobby rather than Wargamming as a complete hobby.

When I no longer feel like I am getting my money's worth.

If my friends stop playing, then I'm more likely to buy figures from CMON to paint, and not paint GW armies. As long as GW makes high quality models that are priced comparatively to other high quality models, and that my friends are gaming with, the actual dollar amount doesn't impact my decision. (I'm one of those price insensitive customers that GW likes to talk about).

I put never, mainly because I will still keep on playing the hobby even if I don't get more miniatures.

Short version, I avoid spending on new as often as I can. I buy second hand except when supporting the local store.

Never, I love this game far to much to quit. I'd probably stop buying anything but the essentials directly from GW, and turn to eBay for actually building an army.

Picked up the rules set for Malifaux as well as two different boxes of their minis yesterday, one for myself and one for a friend, to try and see how post GW life might work.

GW's prices aren't really the key for me to want to put my miniature money elsewhere. I'm actually more angered about their new policy to limit independent retailers from shipping goods to Australia. I can't get my mind past it.

I'll leave the hobby when even discounted products start to cost the same as they were when they were released.

I remember the box of current CSMs costing £18; from Darksphere, their instore cost is now £0.40 more expensive and web cost £0.75 cheaper than what I remember originally paying for a box of figures that now costs £23 direct from GW.

I've since stopped collecting CSMs and moved on to Tau, but with broadsides costing an arm and a leg for a model that can barely hold the weight of its weapons without pinning (something I cannot do, no matter how hard I try) and with Crisis Suits seeing another cost increase for a single plastic model, i'm considering leaving it there, along with my Fantasy armies.

It's doubtful i'll get my Necrons when they come out either, seeing as though they're not on any UK discount site I can find and i'm not paying the prices GW have thrown up for them.

I don't buy GW anymore.

I had some hope, but that was dashed across the rocks, so at this point in time, feth them.


As for "The Hobby"? They don't have a hold on it as much as they sophise themselves to have. Theres more then 100 differnt games outthere on any day of the week. There are always alternatives.

Whoever called GW the Evil Empire wasn't too far from the truth, especially after this week.

For 'hobby' related purchases I do not buy when I see no value or worth for me in a product

For GW related products I stopped purchasing new a while ago. They stopped offering real value to me.

The day the stores with the 15%+ discounts breach £23 for a box of 10 infantry is the day I pull the plug on Games Workshop altogether. Sadly that day is getting closer and closer.

I love GWs game, but their pricing is ridiculous. But, as long as the peons keep buying they'll never stop inflating their prices. Unfortunately right now I'm stupid enough to be one of those peons.

What are we gonna do? Go play Magic where we... oh... wait... where we ALWAYS HAVE TO buy new stuff. Why isn't anyone quitting that now?

Honestly? As long as I am having fun, and University fees allows me. (So maybe another year), I will buy some stuff to hobby on.

The last price increase did me in. Not buying any more models.

Just painting what I've got and saving up for another computer at this rate.

I do have a full Khorne army, but have shards of a Necron one, I'm wanting to rebuild it when the new release finally gets here. I'm soon going to be robbed of the luxury of being able to afford my lovable killing machines.

Magic, ahk, now there's something that is disgustingly expensive, makes Warhammer products looks like they're a bargain.

I'd probably be moving into PP and Mantic games, if this GW price upscale keeps going on.

Value is different for each person. If someone adores every facet of a gw plastic model and enjoys every minute of building and painting it, it is worth a great value even without added value of gaming.
As for myself, I found there were other model ranges I could enjoy just as much with accompanying games which had a much, much greater value than 40k to me so I made the shift from 'the gw hobby' several years ago. I am also more involved with each unit when I don't need multiple copies of one unit since it is a fresh experience.
bottom line: The price of just the plastic models Isn't really a great factor if you are ecstatic to play each and every game of 40k and passionate about every model you paint and build, but most of us aren't quite that enamored with it and have to draw the line.

I voted "I already have".

It isn't just the price increases. It is the insulting nature that GW treats it's wallets, er, customers, er, hobbyists that has lost me to their plastic crack.

Plenty of higher quality plastic crack being dealt elsewhere.

I'm at the point where starting new armies is too expensive, but will continue to buy random items for my current armies every now and again

lets see. compared to video games which keep me entertained for roughly two weeks to a month or so and cost $50, a box of tactical marines will keep me entertained for roughly a week painting from that perspective it is already too high. Once my armies are done it will be the end. I'm already scrapping the tau, but I think I'll keep Krieg just because I don't see any WWI or WWII 25mm models of similar quality.

I didn't pick an option since my one wasn't there. I won't quit the hobby now but I'm certainly not buying Tactical squads again. I remember during the 15% VAT a few years back that tac squads were £15. A Right steal Shame they never lasted in that zone for long...

£25 is like the absolute limit if there was one to choose from the list. £20 is already too much...

With the exception of general supplies and a voucher I used to buy a couple of monoliths, I've bought my army from Ebay/Amazon.

£87 for 10 Immortals? Potentially 25% more pretty soon? On yer bike GW.

I walked in to GW store a while back and the guy in the shop was giving it the big one about GW buying up a new plastic manufacturing asset and explaining that they are switch away from metal. My first question?

Me: "So things will be getting cheaper then?"
GW guy: "Erm...."
Me: "Thought so."
GW guy: "So have you seen the new black library releases..."

It's already too high. I just buy from third-party, I've only bought one model retail. That and paints...

There is no set 'this is too much to pay... It depends entirely on the specific models I'm looking at, how much I like them and how much I want them.

The last "Wow, that model is awesome, I must buy it!" I saw from GW was the Tyranid Trygon/Mawloc. I have one of each. Remember when those came out? Haven't purchased anything GW since then. I'll probably buy a few models used to round out my Dark Elves and call it a day.

When they announced I couldn't buy from oversea, therefore making a tactical squad 45$, they lost me.
