I require a band of merry men to help me kill Skeletron in Terraria!

Only the bravest of souls dare come on this quest, for most will die, and only the strongest, most valiant shall triumph. I search for men of character, men of valour, men of honour, showing bravery in the line of duty, who will die standing with fire in their eyes and courage in their hearts.

More or less I need some dudes to join my Terraria server and kill Skeletron to open up the dungeon. A Bridge straight to the dungeon will already have been prepared, so there will be no shenanigans with dangerous terrain or the corruption. Once enough people have posted in this thread to want to help, Ill set a specific time. Any people with previous experience in killing skeletron feel free to give me advise on the best sorts of weapons to use against him (took him on with full hearts and a minishark, stupid idea, normal bullets apparently do 1 damage to him, 250 shots didnt even scratch him). A payment of 5 gold will be made to each man left standing when Skeletron is dead.

Couple things:
- Dont bring too much money with you, theres a good chance we will all be killed
- Area will be mined out to a level playing field, so we have plenty of room to fight and move.
- Lesser Healing Potions and all the shop keepers will be available on site, so anything you want last minute will be available, including healing from the nurse.
- I ask that no one takes any rare item drops, if they wish to keep it, please ask me first, as it is kinda my map
- Try not to mutilate the pretty dungeon
- Feel free to enter the dungeon with me upon Skeletrons death, theres plenty of enemies to fight in there, too.
- We will be using steam of course to connect, if theres any problems we can always use hamachi.

So, whos game?

I could help, I soloed him after all. Twice.

But no Hamachi. I don't want to use that buggy piece of crap anymore.

Melissia, you may as well have walked to my house in power armour, dragged me out by the legs, put one armoured boot on my chest and thrust a banner through my torso with N00B written on it

lol, sorry?

It's not so much noob, as it is I have a flamarang, which is the ideal weapon for taking him on, and a cloud in a bottle plus red balloon, which help me keep out of his way. I seriously recommend at least trying to get the flamarang and cloud in a bottle before fighting him. The former does great damage and is a ranged attack with infinite ammo (being a boomarang weapon), and the latter lets you double jump.

I had meteorite armour , cloud in a bottle and the minishark, but I got my ass handed to me.

Is the flamarang fast enough? How much damage does it deal to him?

You had a minishark and you still got raped? damn...

Try using meteor shot to boost the damage on that minishark and getting someone with decent armour and a hellstone sword to tank for you.

Also, many many health potions.

I never liked the minishark, myself.

26 per hit or so, and yes it is fast enough, especially when the head starts rolling and chasing after you.

I also recommend you build a flat area of land to fight him on, such as a long chain of wooden platforms on the dungeon's roof and extending off of it. Makes it much easier as you have more room to run around on and dodge. I did the same thing to help me defeat the Eye of Cthulu the first time.

Vile powder against the eater of worlds, minishark against the eye of cthulu and flamarang against skeletron it seems is the best plan.

Or shurikens for the Eye of Cthulu, they're cheap and disposable.

Hell no, vile powder is awesome.

Vile powder damages all enemies in the area repeatedly for several seconds. It's like a lesser version of the vilethorn staff.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I've not been playing that long (and epic fail at knowing how to do multiplayer ) but if you need help keeping the house warm for when you get back I'm your man

I have an enchanted boomerang thing (12 damage) and mostly gold armour. I think I have about 8 or so hearts.

Would that be any use to you?

Also, you would have to tell me how to do multiplayer

I would dispute that mel, vilethorn uses mana and in my experience acts as an inferior version of vile powder.

The sole use I have for vilethorn is hitting through walls.

Then you haven't used it against a worm type enemy

Besides, I have three of the mana regen accessories and full mana, the cost of using vilethorn is nothing to me.

I've only seen little worms and they are annoying enough

There's four worms of increasing size. Giant worm (underground), devourer (underground in corruption), the bone one (hell), and the eater of worlds (corruption boss).

How far down is hell?

I have a medium sized singleplayer world and I dug out really far and still no hell.

No doubt I'll get owned, I got the game two days ago, but I'd like to see it.

See, I plumped for a "large" world. I think I am on the 3rd type of background rock at the moment.

You'll know hell once you start seeing Ash blocks, or when you start seeing lava veins in the background. Or if you get attacked by fire imps or bone worms.

But it should be >4000 blocks down, using the depth meter.

Basically, look for this background:

The background you see above the lava.

I think I just got pretty close before getting destroyed by lava, I was very, very far down and there was lava pools everywhere.

Before I got killed "you feel an evil presence watching you" apeared on my screen, after I respawned a giant eyeball randomly apeared, killed me, then left..

(We need a General discussions Terraria thread)

That was the Eye of Cthulu. You get that randomly after each twenty Demon Eyes you kill, or after you use the item forged at a demon altar from ten lenses.

Guys I am having some trouble with hellstone and obsidian as well. I have 26 hellstone ore and like 203 obsidian, but they wont smelt, even at a HS forge, into hellstone bars.

What should I do? I have the full game.

Get more hellstone, you don't have anywhere near enough to make anything decent.

Also have you broken the forge with a meteor hamaxe and moved it to your base? do that.

Yes I have corpses, point is, crafting hellstone bars is not working, regardless of whether I can actually make anything useful with the amount I have got. any help?
