Well I was thinking on adding a Journeyman Warcaster to my pNemo list which has Arlan Strangeways and a Squire.

The basis for this decision was for more focus for my Nemo but I can't decide what warjack to attach to the Journeyman. It has to be ranged to keep the JWC out of harms way and run on fairly low focus and this poses me with a dilemma, there are a few 'jacks that kinda fit with this description but being a noob still I don't have the experience to make the decision myself.

Either Charger (is better at killing casters and solos, and is noticeably cheaper) or Hunter (better against heavy armor, better range, better RAT, Extended Control Range means that Jr can hang back safely 12" from it and still allocate focus), though I imagine Sentinel could work too. Since Journeyman is squishy you don't want to put melee jacks on him.

I love the charger but the hunter get's my vote for the journeyman. The charger needs 3 focus to shine, leaving none for jr. to upkeep arcane shield. The hunter should never need more than two focus to operate at full potency and if he needs less, the journeyman himself can boost his attack roll and actually hit with that hand cannon.

Hunter or Charger. You can pump the Charger full of focus on that turn you really need something to die (say, the enemy warcaster).

The hunter, on the other hand, has the advantage of only needing 2 focus a turn. It's much better against medium/large base models. Plus, it gives Jr. a 12" lease, as opposed to other warjack's 6".

What you definitely don't want to do is give Jr. a heavy - this makes him too much of a target.

If you want to put a heavy on him, a Defender or a Cyclone would both be ok. Defender only needs two focus and the Cyclone can run on his own. The Defender likes the Dude better though than Jr.

Since you're using him to pump Nemo's focus, you need to be recasting AS every turn and not upkeeping it. I'd have to say a Charger and run it with just point of focus to drop a second shot, or a Cyclone since he can lay down the templates without focus.

Also consider just running him without a jack. I did that with my Nemo lists and it worked out well. I used him as a focus generator along with Arlan and Aiyana & Holt to get him the full focus every turn. Jr. basically was a bodyguard to kill solos trying to get to Nemo.

How does Aiyanna figure into giving a Jack focus?

Using a magic ability counts as casting a spell. She uses a magic
ability every turn and Nemo gets a power token. Next turn he
gets focus in place of the power token.

Ta-da. Focus!

Ah, I thought he was talking about giving the Jack a focus point directly. I didn't think about him meaning giving a focus point to Nemo.

Cyclone is more fun marshaled to a Tempest Gunner UA, I would definitely go Hunter. Being able to control from so much farther away, plus you can pay the upkeep on arcane shield and still give the hunter enough focus to hit like a truck shooting a train.

Tombworld El'Lahaun 2500pts
Hive Fleet Vestis 5000pts
Disciples of Caliban 2000pts
Crimson Fist 2000pts
World Eaters 1850pts
Angels Encarmine 1850pts
Iron Hospitalers 1850 pts (Black Templar Successor)
Sons of Medusa 1850pts
Tartarus IXth Renegade Legion 2500pts

Another one to consider if you have trenchers on your list is grenadier. Costs one more point than Charger, but has three shots a turn.

I would go with either charger or hunter depending on the points available.

Upkeeping it does no good if you're trying to generate additional focus. You have to cast it.

Well seeing as I want to be able to cast spells as often as I can and don't have any trenchers I'll take the hunter. Thanks for the help.

No. Junior isn't a jack marshal.

I always liked put my defender on him, its long range kept him pretty safe, also arcane shield can go on the defender if you need him in melee or on jr himself if he seems to be getting to close to the action.

Jr. is good at running a Defender but the problem is that the Dude is better at it. Sadly, Junior is pretty much just three points for an Arc Shield generator and a speed bump these days.

Sadly the dude does not come cheap, about 17 points for the combo?

As opposed to 12 for Junior + Defender and does a whole lot more (area denial, stealth control, crowd control, making the Defender the only other model in the army that can get 4d6 ranged damage) vs "I can cast Arc Shield."?

He is the UA for the Gun Mages unit. He looks ALOT like Jeff Bridges from The Big Lebowski.

I don't disagree that a unit of gunmages and the dude have a lot to offer, I was only pointing out that the unit plus ua and a defender is quite expensive. If you are playing a 35 pt game you are spending almost half your points. At 12 points for jr and a defender you are only spending about a 3rd of your points, plus you have some extra melee utility if you really need it.

I've seen the JWC in many cygnar lists but he is never controlling anything. He's just there for arcane shield, and occassionally a hand cannon shot.
