http://www.manticblog.com/?p=3605
Continuing on from yesterday’s new Soul Reaver knights, we’re proud to introduce our new Plastic Resin Undead Wraiths. Plastic Resin is a superior material to metal in that it holds detail like Resin, but with all the benefits of plastic. That’s not the best bit however, oh no. We’ve managed to double the number of figures into the box at the same price as the previous metal set. As we all know, the price of metal is getting expensive and so by switching the popular Wraiths to this more affordable material, we’ve passed on the cost savings to you guys! How’s that for value for money?
The Wraiths are all new sculpts as well, making for a nicely varied unit that will integrate nicely with the metal one’s if you were lucky enough to pick up a set of them. If you click on the thumbnails below you’ll be able to check out all the cool details on the armour and robes much more closely. Check out the Undead Wraiths here for more pictures!
Pre-order link here: http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Undead/Elite-Units/Product/Undead-Wraiths-10-Figures.html
10 models for $25 USD. And they're awesome units in the Undead army? Oh yeah!

This is brilliant. Reducing cost per model while switching material, how revolutionary! And these are good sculpts too! Much better than the vampire knights previewed earlier this week. The paint job is still lousy, but still, nice sculpts.

What?!?!? A company saving money and passing the savings on to consumers? How unheard of.
I bet they're doing it to tweak GW's nose again.

Eww those look naff. Going by Mantic's scale (shorter and thinner than GW scale) There had better be twice the models in there. I got some Mantic models on special offer and I won't be buying them at full price. Yes there is a world outside of GW and in that world there are standards like Studio McVey and these are not in that class. People seem so desperate to bash GW that they are willing to accept anything. I think that what Mantic are trying to do by providing a more affordable alternative to Warhammer is laudable, but there are many other types of game out there. I only play block movement with Warhammer because I like that IP, other than that I don't see anything that Mantic do that I cant buy elsewhere and in smaller numbers. Avatars of War do nice models and some of the Bane Legion stuff is interesting. GW will do whatever they want and if the game goes down the pan, so be it. But I think it's misguided to jump at the first sign of an alternative as it suggests that people are still trapped in a fantasy battles with block infantry mindset and that's a shame when there are other games out there. At least Warmachine and Hordes are distinct and have models that excite me.

True.... yet somehow Blood Knights are four times as expensive, all for being resin-plastic instead of pure plastic.

I totally agree, I was referring to the material aspect of the Mantic News post, as opposed to reviewing the miniatures. I'm not a fantasy (sword and sorcercy) player, so these miniatures don't really inspire me at all, but I could see how they would be attractive to someone playing in that genre.
Incidentally, for painting, I've started getting interested in Enigma miniatures...beautiful sculpts, that I'd like toget for display alone....saying that, they're not cheap....but even so, when it comes to shear sculpting beauty they do leave GW in the dirt.
Avatars of War, have too much of a GW "cartoony" style about them, and they're expensive...and of no use if you play at a GW store....so I'm not really sure how much of an alternative they will be for Warhammer players.

GW's problem is their excessive overhead that originates from GW acting as its own distributor and retailer. The fact GW has to markup its products 400% to makes such a small profit only goes to show how messed up they are. Mantic is once again taking advantage of their smaller size to leverage its advantage in the market. At this rate if GW wants to maintains its position without reducing its prices it has to make itself leaner.

But what if people actually like fantasy and block units? Are they trapped and jumping at the first sign of an alternative?
I don't want Warmachine/Hoarde stuff. I could prolly find better stuff than theirs if I did. Not there is anything wrong in those games tbh
But in terms of quantity and quality Mantics are doing okay.

I wrote this when someone asked about Mantic and their models:
'Mantic has basically taken to swinging it's in GW's face, dancing around with its pants around its ankles, and singing "Nya na na na na, can't touch us!"
And we love them for it.'
I'll definately be picking up some undead and orcs for whenever I run DnD/Pathfinder.
