"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. Should be at least subdivided by Fantasy, SciFi, Historical/Pulp .
And you should start with all companies listed here http://www.shop.battlefield-berlin.de/?& then start evaluating these.

True although we would have even more subdivisions with companies that do the combinations above

I'll edit mine

Another mixed company

http://www.eurekamin.com.au/

They do a variety of scales in metal with a little bit of everything from Winged Fezzed Monkeys to Teddy Bears (not making this up!)

I would like to add...
http://www.em4miniatures.com/

A range of scifi plastic minatures in 28mm scale and spaceships and MECHanised bipeds, at competative prices.

But the star of thier range IMO, is the white metal Sci fi troopers, by Mark Copplestone.
They are £1,28 each and there is a large range so conversions can be kept to a minimum.
(They also have command and heavy weapon conversion packs to make converting them real easy ).

Geez i think it'll take forever to list all the companies! Browsing large miniature online stores can attest to that. I'll just try to get the gems

Sci Fi
http://www.urbanmammoth.com/

They have a 28mm sci fi line called metropolis with several interesting factions like space samurai and space gladiators. Models are in metal and it seems that most of their box sets are £30.00. A bit pricey since their infantry boxes are 8 figs but they look pretty

Historical
http://www.frontrank.com/index.asp

Produces 28mm models from Medieval age to Napoleonic, they've been at the business sine 1986, also has a growing 40mm AWI line

http://cuttingedgeminiatures.com/epages/eshop378036.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/eshop378036/Categories

28mm metal company that does primary very old human civilizations, we're talking about Bronze age civilizations

Mix
http://wargamesfoundry.com/

Mainly a 28mm Metal manufacturer with all sorts of stuff like pirates, dwarves, and swat. Pay roughly $5 a fig for guys on foot.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned Studio Mcvey (http://www.studiomcvey.com), or their Sedition Wars (http://www.seditionwars.com) line yet.

Yea, 99% of the stories I hear about BTD are usually negative. If you ever (key word if) get your order, it could have been months

Another addition for fantasy minis...rustedheroes.com. They are supposedly 32mm, but the average human sized mini is right on with PP minis. All are metal. Look to be PP style rounded edge bases.

I just placed an order today, probably have it early next week. Ill try to post some GW comparison pics.

I've had a couple of orders from Black Tree Designs recently, took them 2-3 weeks; I'm in the UK. But then their website does say 30 days for delivery so that's fine. Currently waiting for a third order to come through (forgot to order a couple of Doctor Who minis I need for an upcoming RPG).
