I've been quite frustrated with painting green skin. I've tried a number of methods but they don't seem to work. They all used washes except thraka green wash because i don't have that so i've taken devlan mud and badab black out of any possibilities

I have knarloc green and goblin green right now. I might go and buy orkhide shade to try out the tutorial on the gw site. Does anyone have any good tutorials that come out with a nice clean look? I don't like drybrushing or washes besides thraka green. Thanks! (pictures appreciated!)

I painted my orks as follows:

Orkhide
1:1 Orkhide knarloc highlight (muscles and sinew)
Knarloc final highlight on those
thraka green.

Simple, looks good IMHO and can be done quickly

My favourite ork skin that looks phenomenal in my opinion is:

Orkhide shade base
Overbrush knarloc green

Thraka green wash and then when dry

devlan mud wash

Or, if you want a brighter colour, goblin green, thraka wash.

For brighter greens i use ( catachan camo? i dont think it was knarloc hide )
followed by goblin green , hightlights i mixed yellow with the goblin green ( i almost never mix white into my paints )
but i did on 1 part since i forgot what color i used ( the palm was highlighted with white mix rofl )

The result looks like

My method for boys (I make nobs and ICs darker by mixing in appropriate browns with each green paint): Orkhide Shade undercoat -> Snot Green coat -> heavy Thrakka wash -> Snot Green block highlights -> Goblin Green highlights -> thin Thrakka wash. Occasionally, I'll go back at the very end with Goblin green to brighten up the most extreme highlights. As for the two washes, the heavy wash helps establish depth and the light wash (very light - used more like a glaze than a wash) is mostly just to soften the transitions between colors without having to blend them. This results in a very vivid, but not overly bright, green.

Hi!

My Orks start with a layer of Knarloc green, then I mix Knarloc Green with Skull White (1:1) and give them the second layer, as a final highlight I mix Knarloc Green with skull white (2:1 ) giving the following result:

It's a great skin imo, it's only three layers and you need only two paints

Natakue actually created a really nifty way to make great ork skin. It's all about washing and some people might call that lazy, but I use that technique and similar techniques on all my skin models to get amazing results. Theres like 10 videos or something at like 10 minutes a piece, but you can skip through to the skin parts. Here's the first one....

Hope that helps!

Wow those warmonger videos are awesome! Just wondering if you have tried this method. Did it come out grainy?

Also Just to sum up. It's grass green, sepia wash, thraka wash?

EDIT: I don't have access to reaper paints. Will any type of green around the hue of grass green work?

My current preferred recipe, that I am taking a break from applying as we speak, is: 50/50 Knarloc Green & Goblin Green, then highlights in Goblin Green, then small highlights atop that in 50/50 goblin green & golden yellow. Finally, washed in Thraka Green.

One other method that gives good results, that I use for my Grots: prime white, wash with Badab Black, and then wash with Thraka green again 2x. I did the below grots in this method.

Note the Runtherd is intentionally much darker green then normal, as my feeling is a Boy stuck with Grots day in and day out is going to get pretty dark green.

Hmm.. really depends on what kind of green you're looking for.

If you want that old school, cartoonish look, then paint the skin in Goblin Green and then highlight with Scorpion Green, and wash it with Thraka Green

If you want a realistic, brown, uniform skintone. Then paint it with Knarlock Green, thin wash of Gryphonne sepia, higlight with a 4:1 mix of Knarlock Green - Skull white and then wash it again with a thin wash of gryphonne sepia.

And then a last but not least. If you want a non-cartoony green tone. Paint the skin Goblin Green, wash it till it's Dark Angel Green like in color(or just go out and boy some Dark Angel green, you'r choice) highlight with Knarlock Green and wash with Thraka Green.

That is how I've done my orks at least. You choose

Wow those grots look really good. That method is similar to the warmonger vids except a sepia wash over a shade of green.

I mix a light shade of green acrylic paint with a darker shade then wash it with black, this gives them a darker dirtier look and I like that for orcs

The way I see it, Orcs are a rag tag bunch, and they have varied skin tones. My black orcs start with Dark Angels green, drybrush with goblin green, then badaab black wash. For other greenskins, I pretty much just start with any green lighter than Dark Angels, drybrush one shade lighter, then green or black wash.
