Now that the prices have gone up, how is GW doing in your area? Are people buying the new finecast stuff? Are they quitting GW all together and taking up another game?
I was rather surprised. I found that finecast is selling really well. People are even buying HQ models they already have! I have also seen some people come back to the store who had not been there in quite some time. So it looks like the newness factor of finecast has offset the rage over the prices.

I haven't gone near a GW store in a year.
For a reason.
GW sucks.
That, and I can't stand the loud music they always play.

I very rarely set foot in an actual GW store, and not just because I'm a massive misanthrope. I really hate the pushy nature of the sales staff. Having been a red-shirt myself, I understand what they are doing, and I detest it. Hasn't been a particular slowing down in sales amongst my gaming group, though. Although we are drifting towards Warmachine, but that's not as a result of GW hate, more that we wanted to try something new.

I know that WHW in Lenton has been packed for the last couple of weeks. The gaming clubs seem to be doing quite well. The shop itself was packed on sat while I was getting some gaming in.
I realise it's a microcosm at WHW, but there have been times in the past when GW wasn't doing so well that the hall would only have a few randoms in. It hasn't been like that for some time now.

There are no GW stores in my area, but my flgs was quite busy yesterday when they started selling finecast.... but that may be due to the price rise being quite small over here in comparison to the local gamers income....

Look around you here on Dakka. See all the posters? First off, we ( GW customers who frequent GW products based internet forums) make less than 1% of GW customer base. Second, GWs target audience do not frequent 40k forums. The majority of GWs target audience are just people who buy their products without the slightest notion of what is going on behind the scenes with GW like we know.
GW couldn't care less if the vocal minority here know that Finecrap is a giant pile of marketing scam, or if we know how bad GW really treats their customers on a yearly basis, or how poor the over all 40k/Fantasy product really is. GW just sells models to those ignorant people who buy their crap, maybe play one or two games a year, and then drop the hobby after a few years.
So yeah, Feigncost is going to sell well regardless of how many side by side comparisons we do here.
The good news is that over all, GW has been taking a cash dump on itself for years, and is slowly rotting away. Maybe one day GW will ax their stores and just go back to being a model company again. YEAH RIGHT.

Well for me I have not been in a GW store for an incredible amount of time. I do go to my FLGS as the offer 15% discount which is great. Anyway, GW is looking in bad shape. With ANOTHER price raise is just going to keep killing the hobby and will get rid of young gamers. The finecast was nice and those details are *bleeping awesome, but no I will not pay around 20 dollars for a single character that is just awful.

Although GWs financial statement will give us a better picture of the company's financial status, we can still observe on the ground what is going on. I realise that accounts of such observations are not scientific, but they do give us an idea of GWs status in the hobby world.
I did not mean to limit the conversation to GW stores, or even to stores in general. How is GW doing in your hobby group? Are you or your friends buying their stuff? More importantly are you playing their games?
I hear alot of people talk about GW selling tons of miniatures to kids and non-hard core hobbyists. However, I do not see many such sales at the GW store that I frequent. Most people there are vets, and do frequent the forums.
@ BuFFO, maybe GW will go back to being a game company again. They really should be called Citadel Minatures, as that is where they make most of their money. I used to love Marauder miniatures, but sadly now only Citadel stuff is official.

There's some fine irony is claiming that the bitter 1% really know the truth and the other 99% that are having fun are ignorant.
I've had a store full of people all weekend, playing various games, Ancients, Warmahordes, LOTR, WFB, and 40k. Many of them veterans, lots of them read dakka, and most have picked up a GW model, quite a few of them the finecast models.
Not everyone is bitter and abandoning GW, and it certainly doesn't make them ignorant.
On Topic: GW is fine and well, and the new CFC is selling ok, but not flying out the store. Automatically Appended Next Post: spaceelf wrote:. I've never once had anyone in GW ever even hint that the Marauder line wasn't official to use. A lot of the MM line was mixed back into the Citadel line.

The Finecost stuff is hit and miss. NOT worth the price range, and people are laughing at the pricetag in my area. The fact that some of the models are available in the restic, or plasin, or WTH they are calling it is available is nice, but nothing to write home about. IMO, they have taken a serious step backwards, and the deal with it being on par with Verdun resin modeling accesories, like someone tried to sophise yesterday was laughable at best. I told him to have a nice hot cup of Shut up and to put the kool aid down.
I learned a bunch about human nature yesterday, thats for sure.
One thing I learned yesterday, is that people are sheep, and they will buy it, regardless. The blind leading the friggin blind. Some were stoked to pay extra for less. others were in the "???" mode and asked the obvious,"Why the price increase for this?" And still others were in the head shaking, "Darn GW!" mode. I can see a increase very soon in the second hand market. They were still others trying to convince themselves as I left the store, but I'mconvinced after seeing this crap in the flash. It's bad.
As for the "Internet wahh wahh wahh..." Don't kid yourself. GW stepped on a landmine. The fact that they are either intentionally ignoring it, or are oblivious is going to show int he next quarters.
Things are bad in the cidital ivory tower, theres no two ways about that. How bad is yet to be seen.
People are buying it, but ... The stuff isn't jumping off the shelves, and the players are still in WTF mode. The deal with not knowing whats coming out is screwing up peoples thought process, as well. that wizz bang shock sales is only going to go so far, then people are just going to say screw it.
Flames of War have a couple more players, and still a couple more were trying out FF's board games. there was still the screwy D and D kids in the back room, as well, Unphased and undauted, fighting thier own battles with the 4th edition WOW tabletop. ( 4th edition hasn't made any friends .)
The quality of these new models DOES suck. Each and every bubble pack I looked in was hit or miss, depending on the type of sculpt. More details, the worse it looked.
All I can say about this dog turd is Caviot Emperor and that the emperor is not wearing any clothes...

Most vets around here aren't buying any new models, mostly because they don't need any more. However the price increase appears to have put a damper on people starting new armies.
