Just a note: last I was told, LotR mini's were not legal to use in conversion work. Any bits from them makes a model unusable for tourney games.

That being said, there's several options for you. Since the chainsword is the only thing you have to worry about avoiding, any other melee weapon can justifiably be called a power weapon, assuming its painted properly.

Several places (including ebay) offer bits for sale on the internet. In addition, the assault squad box should have at least two weapons that can meet your purposes.

The scouts box contains five or six knives, which can be painted up as power weps if you wanted.

Also, you could always file/shave down your chainswords to look like sabers.

You could maybe paint the chainsword to be ''power weapony.'' Make they bright or glow... or just cut the chainblades off the sides of the swords and try to carve it sharper or add those LOTR blades to the sides.

THAT or go bits hunting on ebay, its what ive been doing for a while

I dont remember this anywhere. As long as WYSIWYG is in effect it should be fine.

When you say you have no power weapons, do you mean you have no swords/axes at all? Turning swords/axes into power swords/axes is simply a matter of painting them a different colour.

Power chain swords? Better than nothing, but given the small area of chain teeth (compared to a sword/axe blade), it might not look so great.

I doubt that reusing a LotR sword is going to upset anyone - done right, it would hardly even be recognisable. But the smaller LotR scale might look a bit weedy in 40K.

Alternatively pick up some plasticard and sculpt your own. They're pretty easy to make with some careful trimming and filing.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I had the same issue when I was putting together my first marine army. I got most of the models from AoBR so my seargents had chainswords. I used a metallic blue saphire paint Folk Art makes on the blades and painted a little strip on the side for the power conduit. If anybody asked what chainswords were supposed to be power weapons I would just reply with "the blue ones."

The greater good needs some moo.

the fact that GW has gone back on its own word about permitting any conversion so long as the majority of the model is GW is disgusting. Now you can't even use their other lines together?

I would reccomend plasticard in lieu of not having the bits. I would not carve up chainswords because you never know when you might need it, although if you have chainswords aplenty, then never mind me.

Also, If you have necron, or other, glow-rods, you can also use those. If you can skillfully acquire the glowy Jedi rods from lego sets, those are even better (ideal length and durability as compared to the necron rods)

To glimpse the future, you must look to the past and understand it. Names may change, but human behavior repeats itself. Prophetic insight is nothing more than profound hindsight.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from.

If I remember correctly the not using LOTR bits on 40k/WHFB models (and vice versa) isn't a GW thing but part of the licensing agreement with New Line. I'm not particularly happy with GW at the moment (just been priced out of two armies I had planned) but I really don't think this situation is their fault (for once )

As for the power weapons, I second the plasticard option, it's very cheap to buy and cutting out/shaping a sword blade is really very simple.
