Oklahoma City, Ok.

I've decided to take the leap and get the series.
my question is for around $100 i can get the entire
collection with tons of features. or i can get each
season for around $11.99. they don't have all the extra
content. does anyone else have they complete one?
are all the extras worth it? i only save a couple of bucks
by buying each individualy, but i can get it over time.

i appreciate any thoughts on it.

I personally wouldn't buy it for the smeg ups - I'd just get the episodes. But that's me, I've never been one to watch extras on DVDs.

The extras are OK. How often do you watch them on regular DVD's/series?

That should tell you how much they are worth to you

Buy the individuals.
My mate got the same set and he said the extras were either tacky or simply not very funny/enjoyable.
RD was some classic comedy but certain seasons were much better then others. Pick and choose imo.

+1 to this. I didn't enjoy the last few seasons at all, myself. Of course, this is all down to personal taste.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Buy the series not the ego trip.

Do you really want to buy extra footage of the Beeb saying how wonderful it is? And is that worth offsetting buying the seasons at an individual and affordable rate?

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

series 3,4, and 6 are my favourites. If I had to choose one, It would be 6. Series 5 is ok, and it does have the best RD moment of them all - Kryton imagining he is a tough cop by the name of Jake Bullet! Always makes me laugh.

I much prefer the earlier series. The later few were awful in my opinion, especially the last.

Yeah, 7 and 8 were fast running out of ideas.

It's a good show, but I'd rather get just individual episodes, alot of them are good but some can be a bit dull.

okay, 1-6 sound like a (more) sure deal than 7-8 then.
What about 'Back to Earth'? i'm guessing it's a miss as well?
kind of like 'Blackadder back and forth'? that just wasn't very good, imho.

series 6 is the best. That is a dealbreaker! Back to earth is 50/50 hit and miss.

I hated Back to Earth, but that's just my opinion.

I sat through the whole thing and thought at the end 'something was different about that.'

Then it hit me. No canned laughter.

Funny isn't it? Canned laughter was so much a part of Red Dwarf that when they removed it it didn't actually feel like Red Dwarf anymore lol.

Got the box set, as for wich ones to watch, watch them all and decide for yourself. We all have differant personal tastes, plus thou not all the last few series were that great, ''Pete'' is one of my all time fave episodes, DINO CURRY FOR EVERYONE!

Series 3 to 6 really represents the golden era of Red Dwarf.

The earlier episodes didn't know what the series wanted to be and the later ones were little more than rehashes of old ideas.

Back to Earth is so terrible that I can't even class it as a part of the Red Dwarf universe.

Comparing Back to Earth to Blackadder Back and Forth is about right. Each as bad as the other.

1-6 sounds good to me. Those are the best series, IMHO. I'd not heard of the new series, but I don't hold out much hope. Fingers crossed though.
