Subject: Warhammer forge book; are you allowed to use it?

I was looking at forge world, when I noticed how much I liked the warhammer forge chaos dwarfs. My question is simple. When the WH forge book comes out, can I use the Chaos dwarf rules in my club?
Many thanks,
O Yaggy

I think the better people to ask here are the members of your club.

They all have mixed opinions. The founder of the club feels its fine, but a few members are a little unsure. I honestly dont know.

It probably depends on how the book is when it comes out (assuming you're thinking of using them as a stand-alone force). As long as they're not really over-powered, I think most people will be totally fine with you using them.

I am sure you could come to an agreement with some players who are willing to play against you. Have a 2nd army for those who don't wish to play against it, or if the club rules that you cannot use the book at "in club" tournaments.
Other than that, not much else you can do.

I would plan on a chaos dwarf force that's playable under the basic dwarf rules. If anyone has too much of an issue with the chaos version, just run them as the normal.
Normal dwarves are very competitive.

Let me have a quick look through the book so I can get an idea on what I might be facing, then it's fine by me.
I'd be kind of pissed if I paid for a FW army and some douche would not let be use it.

The flip side to that is forge world doesn't have the best record of balanced rules.
I'd be pissed to be totally trashed by a broken list just because some douche dumped cash on forge world.

I think I'll probably use it against the ones who are fine, and Daemons against those who aren't. Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

Actually its more likely, given FW track record, that the book will be heavily underpowered and over costed.
If its a friendly game, ask people. Ask any questions they may have, be prepared to be continually reminding them of unit special rules, and dont try to pull any suprises - for exzample let them see what magic items your book has in full.

This is a great idea. You could easily do a counts as dwarves instead of chaos dwarves.
I think if you are open and honest with most people, then most people will be fine playing the list. For all the stuff we hear about WAAC and TFG, I've rarely run into them. Most of the time I find games with like minded individuals who are just out to have fun.
If your club organizer has said its fine, then don't be afraid to bring the army to the club. Just don't force the issue on those who don't feel like playing the codex. They probably aren't even worth the stress anyway.

This is the biggest thing. Just be up front about your army when you are playing someone who has never seen it before. The first few games with a new opponent might take a bit longer due to the new codex, but it gives you an oppportunity to enjoy the social aspect of the game while your opponent learns the book.

They are usually horribly underpowered for the cost in money and points.
some things are overpowered(more often undercosted), but those things are very rare.

Essentially there are 3 grossly overpowered units (lucius drop pod, for one) in total.
To give a simple example - hydra in IA, 200 points. Hydra in codex - 75.

Did how fliers work between those two books total change, in effect, changing the value of a hydra?
If hydras were so damn expensive, I'd run 9 of them; with 9 devil dogs; I think both those units are under-priced, and only balanced by the wallet effect.

Wel, there arent any flyers in 40k. Essentially hydras in the IG codex lost the AntiAircraft rule (because it does *nothing* in 40k) and GAINED a rule that lets them ignore the save granted by skimmers moving flat out and bikes turboboosting. For a drop of nearly 66% in points.
Cheap hydras? Either get the Aegis kit, whcih has small-ish autocannons, or grab extra Guard HWT autocannon.
