I bought some Trukks today, and before I assemble them, I'd like to know your opinion. Are the upgrades for Trukks any good? Thanks in advance.

For every trukk I go with red paint and a ram. I usually give half the trukks boarding planks but this could easily change depending on how many mechanized lists you run into.

Minimalist is good.

I usually go for the big shoota and the boarding ramps, then use the wrecking ball bits on my battlewagons.

In play a tricked out trukk is a point sink that never realizes its full potential before it blows up.

Of course if something looks awesome to you and you aren't into wysiwyg/tournament play stick it on

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

In truth trukks shouldn't have many upgrades. Reinforced Rams, Boarding Planks and Red Paint are ones I'd consider.

The Rams and Planks look quite nice on paper and I like how they look, but is Red Paint Job really worth it? I'm not sure 1 inch of movement more for 5 points is really worth buying.

Red paint is only 5 points, and it could meant the difference between assaulting the enemy and being tripped up by a bad waaagh! roll, and once again it only 5 points

Red paint job. Never put anything else on my trukks, they are just a delivery system. I suppose you could try to use them for something else, but I can never be bothered with tricky stuff, one less upgrade is one more boy.

Red paint is a waste on a trukk. You're paying 14% of the vehicle cost for a 5% speed increase. Not worth what you put into it.

The only upgrade I consider worth it on a trukk is a Ram, simply because you can cut through difficult terrain with a lot more certainty with it, and that sort of move can often catch your opponent offguard.

Anything else, prepare to watch as those points get exploded. Trukks don't tend to last long.

I use red paint and a rokkit. Occasionally a boarding plank.

I agree with RPJ and a ram. Trukks are incredibly fragile and there's nothing you can do about this. If they target it, they will destroy it before it gets in position. The RPJ gives you just the slightest bit better placement if it explodes. It may also (rarely) give you that extra bit of movement you need to get a cover save or escape LOS entirely, thus giving you another turn to get the boyz where they need to be.

The ram is there because if you do manage to deliver the payload, the trukk is now an extremely low priority target. Having a ram is the best (and cheapest) way to improve its combat capability. Without any upgrade to its fighting capabilities, an empty trukk is pretty much just a worse warbuggy. Not having to worry about DT tests is pretty darn nice too. I've run my trukk without a ram on occasion when I couldn't find another 5 pts to cut, and every time I've wished I had it.

I can see the argument for a boarding plank, but that depends on what you're doing with it. I generally prefer to have a unit exit the trukk and strike at full power, but if you just want to do hit and run on vehicles with a PK it could be nice. A big mek with a klaw and KFF in a vehicle with a plank is pretty nice (though I usually run mine in the battlewagon rather than a trukk).

Every other upgrade ranges from "probably unnecessary" to "terribad". The low survivability means that you should keep the point cost as low as you can, and most of the other upgrades will never get used before the trukk gets blown to pieces.

Thanks, that's a lot of responses in a quite short time, and now I know how I will run the Trukks. Big thanks everyone!

This is where I'm at - though I'll admit I occasionally indulge in giving them rokkits, but I'll admit that's a personal affection and not really an optimal one. The rams are a no brainer though, Orks can't waste time driving around things, now can they? Plus they give you a lot of additional battlefield control. Hands down the best upgrade v. points bundle the Orks have for trukks.

Moving flat out..

I run trukks with just a Big Shoota.

Red Paint Job isn't worth it in my opinion (I mean, I could almost get another boy to do some killin!).

I utilize the trukk to go flat out wherever I want to go and assault it with a mob of Sluggas! Occassionally, I'll throw a boarding plank on - but I've never used them.

I always at least take a Reinforced Ram. Once they get the boyz up there the trukk is pretty usless so why not try and run it into some stuff?

Like said, keep them cheap. Ram, maybe a gun. They're going to get shredded quick unless they're run up with a KFF. Then they'll get shredded only pretty quick.
