So I plan on selling my soul to the plastic devil soon and buying a new resin carnosaur, but am really quite paranoid about it being REALLY messed up and not being able to get a £40 refund, seeing as I can't have a look at the sprue.
I was wondering, how common are these miscasts?? Thanks!

I haven't seen one personally. I've seen pics, but every finecast model I've seen in person has been just fine with maybe a couple of bubbles to fill in with a dab of superglue.

Open the box at the store before taking it home and examine the sprues carefully. Should you discover a defect, work with the staff there to get it replaced, or at least get the bad parts replaced if the rest is good.

I had a miscast Draigo (pics are on the link in my sig) though it appears to be not as common as one would think. It is tough as who knows if it just the loudmouths on the internet (myself included) creating a lot of noise or if there really is a lot of miscasting going on.
I will say GW put one in the mail, and I'll have a new Draigo next week.

Personally if you are that worried about it either open it right up in the store after you buy it or just wait a month or two until the volume of production drops back to a level that can be handled by GWs quality and control people.

In looking through a few models at the FLGS I noticed maybe 2 in the 15 I looked over (through the packaging) that had deal-breaking miscasts. Draigo was missing a significant portion of his storm bolter due to a bubble, and that couldn't be fixed.
It's less about the size of the bubble and more about *where* it is. If it's on the face or a highly detailed area, you've got problems. If it's on a leg, it could be a huge bubble and still be easily repaired if the surface is flat.

Seriously?
You should wait a month or two, and then when you go buy it at that time, you open it at the counter.
With the price of these things, there is no excuse for the shlock that they are cranking out and passing off as GW products. I HAVE seen them in the flesh, and they are an outright embarrasment as far as serious GW miniatures. Absolutly NOT the type of product that we expect from GW.
If anything, I would even tell you to hold even buying this BS and just getting yourself a metal one second hand.
As for common miscasts? Yeah, you can expect them to be, at least until they get thier production issues squared away. DOn't trust anything you don't see for yourself on this issue.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

A GW staff member told me they saw serious flaws in 1/3 of the more complex models in Finecast (Gazull Thraka or whatever his name is, the Ork leader.)
It seems like minor flaws such as air bubbles, thin areas of resin and warped parts are more common than in metal.
Some of these flaws are easily fixeable with a bit of work.
I would expect the quality to improve over the next few months, as the workers get used to the new production method.
We can't say at this stage whether Finecast will end up being more or less reliable than metal.
You'll have to balance those points against the weight saving and ease of construction.

I would.
I always inspected metal models in the shop, though the rate of miscasts is low.

You can always get a refund if the product is defective, it's the law.

The terminator librarian I received had very minor miscasts, easily fixed with a file/hobby knife. Staff was a little bent but I expected it to be.

Same with me. I bought the terminator librarian and the staff was slightly bent as well. Other than that and some minor issues with the feet, no problem painting it up and was really happy with how quickly it bonded with superglue.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |
