I had a game yesterday were a player insisted that even if you have a wizard with loremaster the max number of spells he could cast per turn was is level.
Example: lvl 2 ogre butcher knows all gut magic spells, but may only cast 2 out of the 6 spells during each if his magic phases.
If this is correct can someone provide me with page number in BRB please?

I think he's a wee bit confused. There is no rule stating this. It's just that as you can only cast each spell once per turn, it generally works like that.
Next time someone comes up with a rule you've not heard of, ask them to point it out in the rulebook.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to point to a page for a rule that does not exist.

wasn't that the last edition rules that if you were a level 2 then you can only do 2 spells per turn?

No; you only generated 2 spells at the start, by default. If you had access to more (say, silver wand) you could cast more than 2 just fine.
In other words, 7th ed rules for wizard levels are th esame as 8th, in these respects

A wizard may only cast the same spell once per spell turn. That's the only hard limitation.
The more realistic limitation is you can only cast as many spells as you can get power dice to successfully cast.

And, of course, there are always exceptions to the rule. A single Vampire, for example, could theoretically cast Invocation of Nehek on a single die 12 times plus a couple more if he has a power stone or something.

Your friend has a case of Madeupruleitis. Symptoms can often be confused with whineyopponent syndrom or doesn'townarulebookstentia.
The common cure for this ailment is to take that huge tome and strike him repeatedly atop the skull with it until he admits that he is over his fullofgakation.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

Wrong wrong wrong. If that rule was true then level 1-2 casters would be somewhat useless. (why spent xx points on a model that will only cast one thing during a round with only a +1 or +2)
Useless casting-wise, carrying scrolls or stuff can always be good.

normally its the case, but not for the reason mentioned.
wizards rarely know more spells then their wizard level. only Loremasters or wizards with items that give them extra spells have more then their wizard level in spells.
what he might be confused over is that in 7th, you couldn't throw more dice at a spell then your wizard level +1.
now there are no such restrictions. you can toss up to 6 dice at a spell now, regardless of level.
Butchers can also cast all of their spells in a single turn, providing they have dice to cast with.
