Ah, that's what happened - I had wondered.
Ballsy to send The Deceiver in, with all those Daemonhammers around and no psychic defense, but it worked out pretty well for your opponent.
I'd agree on the mission, though - it was VERY rough on any army that doesn't want to do CC in a building, and it was very easy to accumulate a large-enough lead to render the last turns of the game meaningless.

Because he has Draigo, and Draigo has a special rule that allows paladins as troops.

I knew there was no way for me to win this mission after reading it, but it was nice to have the Deceiver feel like an actual god. I was afraid of the force weapons when I charged that paladin squad, but since I didn't think I was gonna win by points I figured might as well just go for it.
It was one of the more enjoyable losses that I have had.
In the 5th round I played against another GK player and almost tabled him as well, although I managed to win that game. Apparently my dice have powers beyond those of regular dice when pitted against GKs.

I remember reading Dash's necron tactica and some of the stuff you posted in it...

New codex syndrome: Necrons are getting even worse with the new codexes that have been coming out (If that is possible).
IG: A few templates and massed shooting will ruin your day.
Space Wolves: Thunder Wolf Calvary and Long Fangs are going to Phase you out pretty fast.
Dark Eldar: will drop the deceiver without working up a sweat with poison weapons. Toughness 8? Who cares, they have the same chance to wound it as toughness 3, and you only have a 4+ save. Not to mention haywire grenades on monoliths.
And Grey Knights? Strength 10 force weapons (Demonhammers) with easily kill both of the hard to kill necron units, and gun down the wraiths.
I find it interesting that as dismissive as you are of Necrons, you barely avoided getting tabled by the oldest codex in 40k using a suboptimal build, while you are using the newest codex in 40k...
Maybe there's more to the army than you give them merit for?

Interesting how deciever counters paladins, probably the best counter in the game? Cant think of a better one.
Im assuming you need a troops choice to hold a building? If thats true then its hard for the necron player to win.
Interesting to see how a deathstar list does when the deathstar itself can be challenged so easily.

Necrons may be the the weakest codex right now, but in the hands of a competent general who knows what he is doing, they can surprise people. I myself have almost lost to necrons on a couple of occassions even though I felt I had the superior army. Over-confidence can lead to humility....hopefully.
Keep up the good work. How'd your GK's ended up doing in the tournament. I know Janthkin's nids placed 4th.

Suboptimal? That's a fairly standard destroyer wing... unless you were talking about Blackmoor's list. I'm actually surprised he's doing that well with it; it's not every day that you see an army have less units and less models than their Necron opponent

#1. I won didn't I?
#2. How do you think it would have gone in a book mission if I was able to get my force weapon off on the Deceiver?
#3. Did you read Grimjobs batrep of the same player (Turn 4 phase out).
Skrewpa was a good player, and his list was better than Dash's, but there are limitations and weaknesses to what you can do with the Necron codex. This was a very bad match-up for me (He can just run circles around me), and if I force weapon the Deceiver it would have been even worse for him.

The Paladin army does have a few good counters, none of which are foolproof. The Deceiver, Nightbringer and to a lesser extent Abaddon. All three have str 8+ CC attacks and the first 2 ignore all saves. The Pally's can defeat each one of those with dice, but then again dice can get all three to beat the Pally's.
(I like to call the Palladin list the Dean Martin of cool. Deano called everyone Pally to.)
Just so long as their major weakness are three rarely seen units, two of which will no longer be around within a year) I'd call that a list with a chance.
