Not really sure what you're looking for here.

If someone wants the official model, it's worth buying it. If they want someone unique, it's worth building one.

I've always been told that part of the fun of collecting and playing Orks is being Orky about how you collect and play them.

Orks would be a big project for me because I'd want to hack things together and do lots of scratch work.

That said, the Battlewagon, along with the Trukk, is one of my favorite GW kits. Not just for the mini itself, but for the lots of bits and parts and thingamajigs you get with them. Even if you choose a non-GW design as a basis for your Battlewagon, these always come handy.

the battlewagon kit is a must, even if you scratch build one as well (should you want two), it is still a good idea to have the GW one to fall back on for ideas, bits, or dimensions. because remember, people will want it to be about the same size, i can't go around using my looted baneblade as a battle wagon for example

It's an excellent kit, the only downside is that without some conversion, it will look pretty much like most other BWs. Happily it's also an excellent base for conversion - e.g. I've made 8-wheeled and 4-tracked versions.

Unless you're a brilliant modeller with a huge bitz box, or already have several standard BWs in your army, the kit's well worth getting.

Well, GW are getting quite meticulously anal about everything, so.... techincally speaking, you have to buy the model for you to bring it into their store/tournament and play with it.... sigh....

Unless you use another GW model as the base or don't play in GW stores.

My second Battlewagon is a Land Raider. I managed to get the Land Raider minus weapon sponsons for half the cost off eBay, and as I didn't need the weapon sponson it was a bargain. and now I have a very Orky Land Raider Battlewagon

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

Depends on where you're playing.

If you're playing in GW stores or tourneys then you should probably buy the GW kit.

If not, then go crazy and convert/build your own. With carefull use of toys and model bits, you can build a great wagon for a fraction of the cost.

All that said, if you've got some cash burning a hole in your pocket, the Battle wagon is a pretty cool kit.

If you'z an Ork, youz gotz ta be Orky 'bout fings. We ain't got no vehikulz dat lookz da same az any uvva, so'z even if youz handin' ova som a youz teef, it still gotz ta be kustomized, ye?

In Low Gothic, that's basically what others have been saying. Buy it if you want (it is pretty useful just for dimensions- my first scratchbuilt BW without knowing the size was about 3 inches too long and an inch too wide- plus really tall) or not, but if you do buy it, don't just assemble it all normal-like. You got to at least kitbash it a little, or make your own turrets, or something. One of the most Kustomized pieces on most Battlewagons is the Deffrolla, since the basic kit doesn't come with it and the Upgrade kit is really expensive for what's basically a cylinder with some spikey bits stuck on it.

But yeah, even if you buy, don't just assemble it and leave it at that. Konvert.

Then again, you can get some really cook Battlewagons by scratchbuilding. I used six Defiler legs, a stick of wood, some heavy cardstock, a broken radio, doorknob and paper towel rolls to make one of mine (I calls it da Boomstompa, cause it's Stompy, and it's Killkannon goes Boom!) and it's a really unique Battlewagon, that's nonetheless Wysiwyg.

And if you do model it, not all the weapons need to be on Turrets or whatever. I think it's actually been FAQ'd that Orky weapons can go on whatever style mount you want, but they have to abide by that mounting. So you could concievably have a pintle mounted Killkannon, or Rokkit sponsons, or whatever.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

As long as you can produce something that is dimensionally identical to the real Battle Wagon, there's no prohibition against scratch building it for use in any reasonable setting. Even tournaments.

You can be even sneakier using genuine GW models. For example, the OOOOld Battle Wagon, the RT-era one, is not shaped at all like the new one. It's about the size of a trukk and has a square footprint. The new Battle Wagon has a rectangular footprint. In other words, the old Wagon has a wider Front facing and it's smaller, so it's harder to hit with blast weapons. It's technically a GW Battle Wagon, and if GW objects to you using it in their stores then you would be justified in trying to see how well it fits in someone's ass, but people would probably rather you convert it a bit to make it dimensionally closer to a modern Battle Wagon.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

Why didn't you just make one thread about converting Ork vehicles instead of making two?
