I don't know!

Hi,
Just wandering, would it be worth using a paint pot to make a dustbin with legs and a gun or worth buying a kit?

Just buy the kit unless you're a really great scratch builder.

If you enjoy scratch building, do it! Ork stuff should look unique anyway.

If you don't... well... buy the kan.

That's really all there is to it for Ork stuff.

OP's wording is a bit vague ...
Are you asking if it's better to convert kans or buy the kit..or are you asking if Kans in and of themselves are worth taking in an ork army?

As for the convert/purchase kit question...really up to you, if you've got a good hand at converting, making your own kanz is always fun...but the kit is nice as well.

As for should Kanz be taken in an army...depends on the type of force you run...I myself am a huge "Kan Fan" so I'd say yes...definitely worth taking Kanz.

It's a great kit and very customisable. If you're planning a whole kan wall army with 9 kanz, you might want some other kits as well (e.g. the dredd kit, or looted bits from other races, e.g. IG sentinels) to vary the look a little, but it's great all by itself if all you need is a unit of 3.

Before the new plastic kit came out, I'd have advised you to scratch build. The old metal models were almost as bad as the old metal deff dread. The new kanz come three in a kit and are priced well IMO at $44.50 for three, o about $15 per kan. The only downside to the new kit is that it comes with only one of each weapon option. So you'll either be scratch building extras of whatever weapons you want to use or trading for them. Other than that minor downside the kits are absolutely gorgeous. Same with the new deff dread.

The plastic kit is very nice and customizable, I'd recommend picking one up even if you want to convert more later, just to get the feel. Plus you'll definitely want to convert some weapon arms, because 1 unit of kans with grot/skorch/rokkit (or any combo of 3 diff weapons) is FAIL

PS I hold myself to a high standard when it comes to converting, and because I can't (yet) replicate the GW looks with plasticard and greenstuff everything I do is really just kitbashing. That being said, some people love what I would term "sub-par" conversions. If you're one of those people, you've found the right (read: only) army it will work in.

Buy the Kan Kit it's worth it. Magnetize it and then scratch build the extra's you'll need.

I made extra ball sockets and went from there.

Poor orks... Why can't they be the good guys for once?
All they've ever really wanted is whatever you have...

I say get the kit. If you're good at scratchbuilding, then go for it. But, I've seen a lot of scratchbuilt Killa Kans that look like they're just empty bottles of prescription drugs with piston shaped legs attached. Those sort of things don't really convey the awesomeness of the Kan.

Vandil has a great point, but just don't be confused when/if you get a plastic kans box and see that the guns are mounted on arms instead of just straight in the socket. You can do it either way, of course, it's just a matter of personal preference.

I designed them for the lower sockets of the deff dread but they fit Kan sockets too. They make a nice solid socket for a plasti card kan arm if you want the entire arm. To much work for me I just stick a bits deff dread gun on them and call it good!

No problem!
I love Kans! I made 9 straight from the kit (but converted them all to have rokkit arms) for my -you guessed it- Kan Wall!

You are talking orks, you know...

You can do either or, and you get the same results.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I have a set of the Kans and I love the models even straight from the box. I'd go with buying the kit untill you have a vision of what you want your Kans to look like then custom/skratch build some.

HAZZER where have you been dude your plog is getting dusty and is need of a update .

if i was you depending on how many i wanted i would do both.

i.e if i wanted 6 kans i would buy the GW kit and then use the parts to make 3 gw kans and the make 3 converts with the spares from the sprue. anyway the killa kan kit is really really good and well worth investing in anyway
