Yes, metal.

I haven't had my first finecast mini yet. I'll let you know if I decide that they're worth complaining about.

By the way, Studio McVey can pull off some awesome minis in resin, so... if GW can't do it, it is likely because they aren't trying hard enough.

Are the colours in this photo accurate? It all looks very warm and yellow, but I think, judging by the background, that it should look more cool.

I think the painting is very crisp, regardless.

She looks way too human and not at all eldar. Pink skin instead of pale?

The swords look way too grimy and rusted to be the plain fine steel supposedly used by her.

The initial skin color you used shows through heavily around her armor.

Neat hair though I guess, even if it does not match her artwork depiction at all.

Because only the hair color depicted on the studio model can be considered correct for an imaginary-space-gladiator, right? Nevermind that Lelith shows up sporting two drastically different hair colors in the Collecting Dark Eldar section of the codex, because that would just blow a big hole in your criticism wouldn't it?

And never mind that one of those Lelith models is in fact not Lelith, as it is a totally different Kabal.

Really like the skin tone combined with the eyes, was never a big fan of the pale DE look. Definelty original and it works too.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Excellent painting skill, poor painting job.

I think I should explain that before people howl because the paint is in the right place and neatly done.

1. The skin looks 'too human' as stated above, thats forgivable though. Its how you envision dark eldar and that ok. They need not be pallid, besides galdiators get out in the sun. Perhaps that is the problem, she isnt pallid and she isnt tanned, she has pampered skin of a girlie with an indoors life which doesn't really match her IMHO.

2. 'Oh My God darling what have you done to your hair!'
This to me is the bigger problem. It doesnt look changing colour, it looks dipped in goo. The highlights are too wide and have a blob effect that frankly ruins the effect on the hair.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Point one is entirely subjective though, hence you cant label it a poor painting job, "poor choice of color" would be much fairer as a criticism.

Right. And I guess in a civilization that consumes body augmentation like the US consumes McDonalds there would be no such thing as basic hair dye in Commorragh. Lelith's hair can only be painted one way!

Edit note: Just to clarify my original point, the other model depicted on 79 of the codex is Lelith, because it is shows the Lelith model. Whether or not it is Lelith the character is open to the interpretation of the viewer since the caption mentions a different Kabal. Still, I'd argue that presenting a character model in two vastly different color schemes in an official publication sets a precedent for taking liberties with the character's hair color and costuming by players/painters. If that doesn't fly for you fine, but to leave a rather passive aggressive comment because one painter didn't match the studio hair color is rather ridiculous in my opinion.

When I painted her hair and skin, I really hadn't guessed that such things would be so controversial. I mean, this isn't the first time that I did not mimic a studio paint scheme, and it really won't be the last.

I won't apologize for the color scheme, because I think it looks good and matches my client's request, and those are the measures of success that I use.

But to each his own. I painted Lelith here as a commission, and for my clients who think the skin needs to be more grey or that the hair needs to be red, well, that's what I do for them.

I am pretty sure that the next client who is going to have me paint Lelith is going with blue hair, though. But greyer skin, so we'll see how that's received.
