It's a video battle report on a fine blog run by Magilla Gurilla.

Nice report dude. Unlucky rolling on the Bezerkers vs DC fight. You should really have wiped them out twice over.

Thanks for checking it out!

Magilla Gurilla was kind enough to point out the absolute atrocity of my dice during that assault phase.

Thanks for the report. Sad to see Chaos lose, esp Word Bearers. Sidenote-did you forget to roll for deamons? I can't remember now if that was in the list or not. Also why did you charge both DPs up into assault range on the first turn? I'm not trying to bad mouth you (or was it the other guy, I don't remember. so when I say you i mean who ever was playing chaos). Just simply wondering.

Oh, no I didn't forget to roll for them. They just got owned so quickly they didn't get mentioned I guess.

Honestly, I put the Daemon Princes out front so that they would get charged. I had all of my stuff right behind them (Berserkers, Plague Marines, etc) and figured that my counter charge would leave Magilla trading his Death Company, Reclusiarch, Terminators and Librarian (4 KP) for my Daemon Princes (2 KP). It was a gamble, and as you could see the shooting of a full squad of CSM with two meltas, 6 Obliterators, Plague Marines special weapons (2 melta, 2 plasma) and the bolt pistol shots and subsequent charge on both of those squads from my 20 Berserkers and Lesser Daemons failed to make that gamble pay off. I think I got something like 5 hits on the Death company. Out of 40 attacks.

I'll get him next time though!

When he said "Monster Rain proceeded to roll more ones than anyone ever has in the assault phase", I was like

'That's my boy!'

Good report man. I think your armies matched up pretty decently against one another. I'm rather surprised that you didn't kill the stormraven. Usually in any game I play those things are dead by turn 2. Then again, it had delivered it's cargo by turn 2, so you really only had one turn of fire and it had a cover save for that.

Missing your first turn dread-drop yet?

I actually did shoot a fair amount of stuff at the stormraven, I just couldn't manage to do anything to it.

As you said though, once it had dropped off the Death Company it's priority dropped significantly.

I also just want to point out that I didn't actually make the report, Magilla Gurilla did. I just happened to be the recipient of the beating.

solid performance considering the overall difference in codex strength. your opponent's list was pretty brutal.

when i saw them front and centre against all that las spam, i thought 'uh oh'. i saw the method to the madness, but i think i'd have put those DPs behind the wall nonetheless. perhaps nurgle princes are the way to go when facing down a wall of armor for the countercharge. i wonder if they'd have held on an extra turn.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I probably won't try that again.

If I'd been smarter I would have held back and plinked away at the transports and set up for when the Land Raider and Stormraven started getting a bit too close. Sometimes my overly aggressive play style bites me on the ass, particularly against a player like Mags who is going to make every mistep I take hurt. A lot.

Lascannon spam? Me? Never?

I think that Monster did extremely well; he is using a codex deemed second tier and he does very well with it.

If he had been facing more traditional mechanized BA, he would have done a whole lot better; it was the fact that I have so many Lascannons (most Twin-Linked) that was the difference in this battle. However, my Lascannon spam has done wonders for me when facing other mechanized lists especially GK Razorspam as I have a longer range and can break them up as they try to get close.

I have no doubt Monster will get some revenge.

Fun report. Furioso is a nasty second wave/cleanup crew. Too bad he couldn't get popped before going on a rampage.

I like the DP/countercharge move. The LDs should have joined in against the Terminators rather than the DC, though. Both targets are equally tough to wound, but the DC have more attacks, so have an easier time slaughtering LDs for CR.

Overall it felt like you had the tools to take MG's army, but not stopping the SR or Furioso lost you control of the center. The Chosen fluffing in the backfield also cost you in the KP race. Did you consider having them outflank on foot and either deploy their Rhino hidden in the back or just in regular reserve?

Regarding the Chosen, I didn't really consider that. I wanted them to be able to either pop out and net me some kps or come in far from the action. It would appear that I made the wrong call though. I way underestimated the Furioso's ability to eat my troops. I mean, I knew he had the potential but I had a bit of a "It can't happen to me!" attitude.

I did put a number of shots into the SR, but the dice were unkind.

Thanks for the tips though, and I will remember that about terminators vs. SLDs; it hadn't occurred to me but now that you say it it makes perfect sense.

Also, of course, thanks for reading!

It really was fun. You know it was an enjoyable game when the last two turns take all of about 15 minutes because nearly everything you started with is dead. Particularly at 2500!
