Okay, three questions here.
1: What classification are 'Nid warriors? The Codex marks them as a troop choice, but GW's website says they're an elite or HQ choice.
2: Someone please help me figure out wtf is the difference between a 'Nid Warrior and a 'Nid Prime.
3: On the 'Nid Warrior sprue in the 'Nid battleforce, theres something that looks like a... series of venomous barbs? What is this, and what unit is is for?

#1: Go by the Codex unless there has been an errata.

#2 Tyranid warrior P.90 Tyranid codex, Tyranid Prime P.87 Tyranid codex. (Basically one is a Independant character, and the other has to be bought with at least two others).

#3: I have no idea what that is for.

So to up the question: What would be involved in making a standard 'Nid warrior into a 'Nid prime? (since there doesn't seem to be a dedicated mini)
So.. is it a conversion bit to make your 'Nid warriors into Lictors? And is that also what the massive scything claws are for?

Anything that makes him stand out from the other Warriors would be sufficient, really. Give him a different head crest, paint him with different markings, whatever.

Not as such, no... Just a conversion but to give your warriors flesh hooks. I don't recall off the top of my head if that's actually an option in the current codex, but the warriors were originally made for 3rd edition.

And is that also what the massive scything claws are for?

No, they're for the 3rd edition Hive Tyrant or Carnifex model. The upgrade sprue was originally used for the various Tyranid Monstrous Creatures as well as the warriors.

so is it mainly just used for the venom cannon and barbed strangler pieces, and the scything claws and rending fists for HT or Carnie?

I personally use the MC scything talons to denote my Prime from the other warriors.

Flesh Hooks were an Upgrade until 5th edition came out.

I should post a pic of my broodlord. Before the Broodlord model was released, I took the MC Scything Talons and MC rending claws and replaced the normal arms for a Genestealer. He is CLEARLY different then the rest of them.

One easy way to convert your Prime is to use the Rending claws as hands (just chop off the tips of the claws), then chop the "Talon" part off the big scything talons and flip them upside down for double boneswords. If you want a lash whip, use the tube arm part that goes with the Heavy Venom Cannon, extend the end out with some greenstuff and put some flesh hooks on the end. If you purchased a Trygon or Carnifex, you can use some spare head bits from these kits to beef up the head of your Prime.
