I'm writing a alpha legion fandex, and wondered something.
1. As the alpha legion are masters of speed and infiltration, would they have spider devoted units, or anything to do with spiders?
Also, If you could point me in the direction of websites containing alpha legion fluff that isn't 40k wiki or lexicanum, it will be much appreciated.

Why would they have anything to do with spiders? read index astartes books/WD article on them it has no mention of spiders.

They use cultists and propaganda, psychic screening to allow marines to pass as normal humans.

Hydras and Serpents instead of Spiders , spiders are never mentioned.

A Spider influence is entirely realistic. Fast, deadly, stealth predators, much like The Alpha Legion. Do I even need to explain how a web would be a massive influence?

Alpha Legion were never into speed tactics...

The Alpha Legion were into sabotage and guerilla tactics. They raise cults and terrorist groups using them to act instead of showing themselves and thus keeping their enemies guessing.

Alpha is about long term plans and sleeper cells, the opposite of speed.

Night Lords would suit spider better...
Though the trap element of the web would suit the ALpha Legion well methinks...

Agreed; the Alpha Legion is about pure infiltration and sabotage. Speed is a non-issue to them and not worth considering.

They induct agents-provacateurs to infiltrate their target(s) and cause internal upheaval through sabotage and guerilla tactics.

Yeah, like previous posters, they're all about slow infiltration and sabotage before finally attacking when everything's set.
I think in the previous codex there was an article about how they infiltrated a marine chapter and turned half of the chapter into sleeper agents so when they finally attacked the worlds that the chapter was supposed to be guarding, a single word turned half of the chapter renegade.

Cool stuff huh? I almost started an alpha legion army. Then thorpe's codex came out.

The Legion thrives on infiltration, espionage and long-term manipulation. Speed tactics don't usually come into it, unless it's the elimination of resources that have been compromised or are no longer deemed necessary.

Even then they are likely to have a plan for that already...

While we are discussing the Legion, has anyone been able to reconcile their current actions with their overarching agenda? I mean, they failed to win the war for Horus, which would have exterminated the human race within a couple of centuries. The stagnation is upon us, and the Primordial Annihilator's ascendancy seems inevitable. Are they trying to set up the universe for another colossal civil war? It seems unlikely that such an event would take place. Even if they could subvert enough of the Imperium that Abaddon (or whoever the "great uniter" is) was victorious, he seems unlikely to share Horus' inner guilt/remorse enough to annihilate all humanity.

Most likely, they've forgotten their ultimate goal, or have accepted their fate as traitors.

Alpha Legion are great, I was going to collect them, but I've opted for The Cleaved

The spider thing could work if its a slow poison they give out that killls them from inside "the enemy within" haha

It's not opposition at all, it's correctly laying out the Alpha Legion's Modus Operandi here.

However, it appears you're fixated on the spider-thing, so obviously you think it's relevant to the Legion, regardless of what little background provided for the Alpha Legion here.

They're just thinking eighty bajillion steps ahead of everybody else.

If you want to do a spider-themed chaos fandex just do it, you can write the fluff however you want. But you seem locked on pushing spiders into Alpha Legion when they have 0 spider imagery at all. If you want something that Alpha Legion players would want to help with, or play in their gaming groups, you should write to established Alpha Legion background, not shove spiders all over the place because you think it's cool. I mean where would you even incorporate spiders? Their colors are established as green and blue, their icons are serpents and hydras. Are you planning spider walkers or thunderachnid cavalry?

HE asked if it suited them and it does. They don't have a history of it but the Legion isn't a whole entity and is notable for its autonomy. There could easily be many groups of Alpha Legionaires that use spider imagery to reflect their MO.

He asked if there were established groups of them, and there aren't. Sure you could make up an spider-loving AL splinter and write about them, but then you're not really making an AL fandex, you're making a homebrew Spider Legion fandex that has a fluff connection to the real AL.

He isn't gonna cover the entire fandex in them.
He wanted to know if they might have a unit or a formation that is devoted to them or something similar.
Personally if i was gonna do it i would put a small chunk of fluff in about how a certain Alpha Legionnaire war band uses spider imagery and other spider related paraphernalia.

They use any and all available resources. If they got access to Spiders, they would use them. Then they would probably destroy them. The Alphas are the hardest legion to give a definite answer on, because they keep their methods secret until it's too late to do anything about them. There's no reason they wouldn't use them.

Your all looking at it wrong obviously the spider is Alpharius in disguise

I've often wondered why GW didnt incorperate more spider imagery in 40k. All I know of spider in 40k is Warp Spiders and that Necromunda gang.

It is, I suggested speed, that was wrong, I didn't expect five or six posts to reply to something I didn't think was that important.
Fixated? Nah, I have no intention of making a Spider themed Alpha Legion army, or any Spider army in any form. He asked if Spiders fit the Alpha Legion, they do, I responded as to why. Also, it's a fandex, not GW certified hard back wax-seel stamped cannon, essentially, he can invent things, and Spiders certainly do fit the image.
