I'm considering starting a dwarf army and have a few questions about them.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How effective are dwarf gun line armies?

Are they fun to play against, or will they get you labeled at TFG?

In gunline armies, which are the best units or warmachines?

Can you bring up to 6 bolt throwers?

If you can, would you ever?

Can an engineer leave one war machine to join another if the first one is destroyed?

Is an anvil good in a gunline army?

What HQ choices are good in a gunline army?

I dont know all the ins and outs of dwarfs but heres what I know.

Dwarf gun line hurts a lot.

Cannons the stone throwers and the organ guns are the best the dwarfs have for war machines gyrocoppter hasnt done much in the games I have played against them.

The dwarf thunderers are effective.

They can loose especially when wulfrik the wanderer and 50 marauders come charging across your flank the gun line didnt last long.

Thats all I know hope this helps a bit.

Dwarf Gunline can be very effective . I found it most usefull with small tarpit units that lock and Crowd Control while your gun line wipes out the survivors.

Is it fun to play against... Probably not . Gunline Vers Gunline isnt that 40k?

The one thing to remember is . Dwarves Guns pretty much makes up for the Lack of Magic.You will also find some of the best choices are found in the special option(cannons , Grudgethrower). So you can really load up on them.

In gunline armies, which are the best units or warmachines?
Ranger Scout ability Helps Tarpiting , I find that Miners are great to wipeout Opposing gunlines . Though I love thunderers . I have grown to love quarellers for the Great Weapon Option.

Can you bring up to 6 bolt throwers? Depending on the points I guess , But BTS are not the best choice

If you can, would you ever? See above

Can an engineer leave one war machine to join another if the first one is destroyed? I believe a Master Engineer (Hero choice ) Can but a unit upgrade engineer can't

Is an anvil good in a gunline army? Wrath and Ruin can be fun if you can get the 4+ roll with unlimited range d3 units take 2d6 St 4 Hits.


All in all Proxy , find and good friend who doesnt mind getting shot at . Beware abushers

Two units that make gunlines more effective:

Runelord + Anvil - the Anvil power that hits 1d3 units and halves their movement is awesome. It effectively doubles the number of turns you get to shoot at 'em.

Gyrocopter - highly maneuverable march-blocker. Gives you still MORE time to shoot at units!

Its hard for a stunty. we need to combine the cost of what other armies spend in magic offense and shooting, which I imagine is around 500 in a 2k game.

The problem is, we need magic defence which costs us 150p+. Therefore, our shooting has to compensate enemy magic and shooting with a budget of 350! No fair, they get magic and shooting offense and defence (+4 to dispel, we get +2) with a hearty budget of ~500. Hence we are handicapped, cos our runeguys offer no offense (Dont mention the Anvil, argh only 1 good spell and its only 50/50 (or a pathetic D6 S4 hit) and a 1/6 to misfire at 500p!).

IMO, the gyro isnt powerful enough and is too expensive, things like Great Eagles with W3 at 50p ruin our gunlines.

If we invest in shooting we need to protect them, further increasing our budget.

Our basic WMs cost more than others and then doubles with runes. A well specced GT at 140, still is less than 50% for a direct hit. You need 2..and bang there goes the budget (your warrior/hero/lord budget get affected).

Ugh, thunderers/quarrelers, 150p+ to kill 2-3 models a turn, cant reform and shoot, useless in combat (bar the GW Quarrelers but you wont have many hitting back).

I wouldnt mind if our standard warriors were ruled to be stubborn as well

Sorry to sound negative, but its really hard to strike a balance. Though an Org gun , 2 GTs and Cannon is a good start.

Put ME in range of both GTs for reroll scatter and artillery dice. Looks brutal, I love it and I have everything but an anvil. May as well spend the extra 4 pts on a GW for the ME.

The Dwarf gunlines aren't exactly a 'fun' list to play or play against. It won't get you labeled poorly as it is the main dwarf list, but don't be an ass while playing because thats what usually causes the poor labels. Also you can't take 6 bolt throwers, nor would you want to. Its much more effective if you take mainly cannons, organ guns or grudge throwers as they are the better and much more effective than any bolt thrower you could have. and i don't believe that an engineer can leave a war machine as if its destroyed he's likely to have died with it, for instance if there was a miss fire then he will be dead along with the crew. Finally you should use a runelord most likely or runesmith as the general as this will allow you to use anti-magic such stuff haha. Finally the anvil would be a VERY good thing to add..the anvil is really quite great easily one of the best things in the army in my opinion. Best of luck for this list
