Sure Space Wolves Land Raider Pilot
|
Hi All
I have been drawing up army lists for my Space Wolves and got thinking about points usage etc. That made me think about the MOST cost effective 40k unit going. So which one is it?! At the moment for the wolves its a hard decision between Long Fangs, Grey Hunters or Rune Priests etc. Give us a yell and tell us what you think!
Cheers
Andy

the tyranid tervigon because it's point are nothing for basically a 6 wound carnifex that spawns termaguants for free. i've known a single tervigon produce two times it's own points of guants in one game, and you simply end up flooding the oppossion, so just from that the tervigon should be the best let alone the fact that for under 500pts you can have two in an army with a squad of guants to make one tervigon a troop choice. The fact that the tervigon is then a troop choice and can capture objectives is awsome. It also has it's psychic powers, and with S5 it can still be used for taking out the smaller tanks. The one downside to the tervigon is it's rubbish initiative but I think the rest balance that out and it wouldn't be a tyranid monstrous creature without having to strike last.

Marbo.
65 points can cause entire formations of Terminators, Long Fangs, hell ANYTHING that isn't packing a Storm Shield pause.
It's even more satisfying on Tyranid Warriors, sooo many wounds caused

I think Plague Marines are pretty cost effective.
T5, Blight Grenades (no bonus attack on the charge for you! hahahaha!), FNP and 2 special weapons in a squad fo 5. All for 23 points. Tasty.

True, but point for point its cause to find a more cost effective way of making sure your opponent spreads out.
Hell, for his cost NOTHING else can rival what he offers.

I'd personally go with Kabalite Warriors or Trueborn.
They're very cheap.
They have a basic weapon that can wound anything with a toughness value.
They have access to competitively cheap transports
(not insanely undercosted rhino cheap, but still)
They have access to an assault anti-tank weapon for cheap.
They can get FNP relatively easily which roughly gives them the equivilent to a 3/4+ armor save.

I would think the Rhino as well. It really is a work horse for it's cost a player running SM really cannot do better. Unless the rhino is outright destroyed it will always be usefull. It can repair it self from beinging immobilized, it can move 10 troops, it can act as a shield, lauch smoke, and while the storm bolter is not a huge threat to an opponent it helps from time to time with opposing infantry when your ready to unload the troops from within its armored hull.
And another reason I think the Rhino works in this category. It is almost impossible to use a Rhino wrong. Part of being cost effective is the ability to use the unit for what it was meant for, in this case a DT, that's simple you move another unit from point A to point B. It's not like the Tervigon mentioned above. That beast is 200+ points and if you role doubles on the first movement phase the thing is done for the game spawning out gaunts. How many 7 point gaunts do you need to reach 200? A bunch. A 35 point rhino has no issues with that. If it allows it transported unit to arrive near it's destination it's made it's points, if it is destroyed so the transported unit can live to fight on, well, it's earned it's points.
What else can do that?

In huge battle I would agree with this but anything under 2k points it's not worth it because it saps too much, it may still be amazing but it leaves your necrons soldiers vulnerable and open to the phase out rule. However, they will hopefully alter this in the new codex.

My brother thrashed my Eldar with one yesterday,
RP powers were nerfed slightly in the latest FAQ, making powers Roll to Hit. JotWW is not a shooting attack, as it simply asks to Draw a Line, yet if you miss the first target in the Line, the rest miss?
The power relies upon the models along the line rolling Initiative, this should be enough and is similar to rolling to hit, as they are rolling to get out of the way/not fall down the crevasse.
RPs are not broken, but they are a good points cost.
My money is on the humble Grey Hunters, with a close second being ML armed Long Fangs packs.
