Just a heads up for people who play Spartan Games' games, from TTGN

First up is the dystopian war

DWPE09 Prussian Empire Wachter class Escort (6) £6.00
While most escorts are intended to provide anti-aircraft protection or concussion charge protection, the Wachter is actually designed to protect vessels in one simple way: hurt the enemy.

DWPE10 Stolz class Destroyer (3) £7.00
Although its fore guns are a fixed channel, they are a Primary weapon and at Range Band 1 kick out 6AD of hurt to an enemy. Like other Destroyers these vessels have the Pack Hunters MAR, making a squadron of 4 models rather nasty.

DWPE11 Prussian Empire Blucher class Dreadnought (1) £13.50
Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher was a famous Prussian Generalfeldmarschall (Field Marshall) who was known for his rather direct military tactics. ‘On it like Blucher’ is a term synonymous in the Prussian military for taking the fight to the enemy. The designers behind this Dreadnought certainly took this to heart. b powerful Primary turrets rain death on enemy targets and row after row of Tesla Coils rip into enemy vessels.

DWPE22 Prussian Empire A9-V Sturmpanzer Land Ship (1) £12.50
The Sturmpanzer has become rightly feared across the battlefields of the world. It has a fearsome array of turrets and is armed to the teeth with Tesla coils. Sturmpanzers are at the forefront of every assault and form the heart of every defence.

DWPE23 Prussian Empire A6-V Class Medium Tank (6) £7.00
The A6-V has flexible arcs of fire to take advantage of individual and linked fire. It also carries a sizeable complement of rocket marines. A full squadron of A6-Vs can pose an ever present threat of a massed boarding assault.

DWPE24 Prussian Empire B3-S Medium Bombard (6) £7.00
The B3-S fills a close support role in Prussian armies. They follow behind the first wave of tanks laying down a heavy shifting bombardment.

DWPE25 Prussian Empire Walze Class Small Tank (20) £7.00
The Walze is an efficient scout tank, often deployed in large squadrons. With its fore guns and Tesla coils it is able to look after itself in a fire fight.

DWKB09 Kingdom of Britannia Bastion class Escort (6) £6.00
Anti-Aircraft is the role of the Bastion Class Escort. This small and nimble vessel is designed to protect the larger vessels, such as the Ruler Class Battleship, from incoming aerial assaults.

DWKB09 Kingdom of Britannia Orion class Destroyer (3) £7.00
Britannia Destroyers are, like all ships of this class in Dystopian Wars, Pack Hunters. That is to say they have a special MAR rule that allows them to hunt down larger vessels and destroy them. The Orion has a single fore turret with a 270 degree arc of fire and fore torpedoes. It can be deployed in a squadron of 2 to 4 models.

DWKB11 Kingdom of Britannia Majesty class Dreadnought (1) £13.50
The Majesty Class is a sight to behold when steaming towards the enemy, its SIX Primary turrets coming to bear on enemy targets. Defensively the model can have up to TWO Shield Generators, which can be added without losing any turrets. Although relatively costly at 230 points (270 points with its two shield generators), the Majesty is a fine addition to any Naval Fleet.

DWKB22 Kingdom Of Britannia Sovereign Class Land Ship (1) £12.50
The Sovereign is the utility workhorse of the Britannian land armies, and is a common sight across the world. As well as performing logistical functions it is very versatile, with different models of the same design having either turrets, mortars or a headquarters.

DWKB23 Kingdom Of Britannia MKII Class Medium Tank (6) £7.00
The MKII has plenty of firepower in three arcs giving it lots of options and no fear of being surrounded. A well positioned squadron of MKIIs can hold ground and threaten multiple enemies, linking their fire when necessary to take down targets of a larger class.

DWKB24 Kingdom Of Britannia Cromwell Class Bombard (6) £7.00
The Cromwell is a bunker buster of a tank. Although rigged for indirect fire it has been used extensively on the battlefield as a close range battle tank.

DWKB25 Kingdom Of Britannia Terrier Class Small Tank (20) £6.00
The Terrier is fast and agile, usually deployed in large numbers as a combined attack a full squadron is a threat to most targets.

DWBS09 Empire of the Blazing Sun Kitsune class Escort (6) £5.00
After the demise of the Battleship Hideyoshi to an aerial attack of Federation bombers, where the vessel had been left unprotected naval engagement, the Blazing Sun military vowed to never make again. The Kitsune is designed to provide a low cost AA defence for the likes of Carriers, Battleships and Dreadnoughts.

DWBS10 Empire of the Blazing Sun Yurgi class Destroyer (3) £7.00
Rockets, rockets and more rockets. You can hear the engineers of this destroyer howling for more ranged weaponry. As with other ships of this class the Pack Hunters MAR is in play, and a full squadron of 4 Yurgis is a sight to behold as all the Rocket Batteries let loose.

DWBS11 Hachiman class Dreadnought (1) £13.50
With three of the world’s most powerful naval turrets attached to its hull, the Hachiman can target an enemy in Range Band 1 with 25 dice, hit targets in its fore arc with as many as 7AD of torpedoes and shoot out up to 9AD of Rocket Batteries at Range Band 4. Don’t get too close or an AP of 12 will cost you your crew (and ship.) and an AA of 8 helps protect the vessel from aerial attacks. The Hachiman is a powerful all round vessel.

DWBS22 Empire Of The Blazing Sun Taka Ishi Heavy Walker (1) £12.50
The Taka Ishi represents an alternate advance in the design of battlefield assets. With its mere size it presents an intimidating target and is a beast in urban combat. It has great all round fire with its knee turrets, main turret and rocket battery.

DWBS23 Empire Of The Blazing Sun Chi Ri Class Medium Tank (6) £7.00
The Chi Ri has a durable chassis and a wide firing arc with its turret and broadsides. It also has a good anti-aircraft ability for its class.

DWBS24 Empire Of The Blazing Sun Ho I Class Bombard (6) £7.00
The Ho I is more than capable of bombarding enemy vehicles and fortifications with sustained fire at both short and long range. It can also fire into either the fore or aft arcs.

DWBS25 Empire Of The Blazing Sun Ke Ho Class Small Tank (20) £7.00
The Ke Ho has a straightforward design (even if it is round.) and can take a fair amount of punishment for its size. A squadron of Ke Hos can be quite a threat to ground and air targets alike.

DWFS09 Federated States of America Springfield class Escort (6) £6.00
The Springfield is intended to escort and protect larger vessels from aerial attacks. With a low points cost and an AA rating of 3, the vessel is a well priced addition to a Dreadnought, Carrier or Battleship.

DWFS10 Federated States of America Guilford class Destroyer (3) £7.00
Although its fore guns are not the most powerful, the Guilford does make up for this with port and starboard Rocket Batteries that are effective out to Range Band 3. As with other Destroyers in the game, up to 4 can be used in a squadron and the Pack Hunters MAR makes them fairly lethal.

DWFS11 Federated States of America Enterprise class Dreadnought (1) £13.50
The Enterprise Class is, quite literally, a floating platform of death. It can slam an enemy with its THREE Primary turrets, rain down destruction from above with its Rocket Batteries and, with a plethora of anti-aircraft batteries and concussion charge stations, defend itself rather well. The model is well worth its 240 points.

DWFS22 Federated States of America Washington Class Land Ship (1) £12.50
The Washington is one of very few aquatic tanks having been developed by the FSA to support amphibious landings. Its dual use and potent firepower make it a dangerous asset on the battlefield, while the high profile of its headquarters makes it a rallying point.

DWFS23 Federated States of America DWFS23 Trenton Class Medium Tank (6) £7.00
The Trenton has powerful forward and aft batteries. A squadron of Trentons is adept at close formation manoeuvres, so that multiple squadrons of Trentons can maintain clear arcs of fire to the front while remaining a danger to enemies that pierce their rear lines.

DWFS24 Federated States of America Yorktown Class Bombard (6) £7.00
The Yorktown provides essential artillery support to FSA formations. It can lay down destructive strikes from the rear, and has the added feature of firing either forward or backward.

DWFS25 Federated States of America Pioneer Class Small Tank (20) £7.00
The Pioneer is a tough little tank. It combines direct firepower with improved anti-aircraft capability, and in a full squadron can threaten most flyers.

And now the firestorm stuff

FAAT04 Xelocian Karn Class Frigate (4) £14.00
A squadron of up to 5 Karn Frigates can snap at the heels of enemy vessels, their fore weapons linking to hand out 10AD of pain. Stragglers beware – the wrath of Karn will be upon you.

FAAT05 Xelocian Hantari Class Cruiser (2) £16.50
All Xelocian Imperium ships are designed around a forward-firing energy bore weapon, normally running the entire length of the ship, that disrupts the molecular structure of its targets when it strikes them, even at extreme ranges. The Hantari Cruiser complements this fore weapon with an effective bank of fore torpedoes, and a fairly powerful starboard/port array of weapons make this a great all round cruiser.

I didn't think I would really be into Dystopian Wars but this actually makes me really interested. The Japanese walker looks really cool and so does the British stuff (which looks like it might even fit into epic). Very cool stuff.

Cool stuff, I really want to check out these games.

I could see that new firestorm armada ship being used as a weapon for 40k... Looks pretty necron suitable.

Oh come on. I thought Dystopian Wars would be different, but every one of Spartan Games's lines ends up having several different factions with the same units for each side.

Each of the four factions here receive:
X-class Small Tanks
Y-class Bombards
Z-class Medium Tanks
Superheavy Land Unit
Battleship
Cruiser
AA-Destroyer

I wish there would be some, any variation or asymmetry in the units aside from having exact analogues with tweaked stats.

Flames of War and Epic 40k have shown that you can have a fun and balanced game with asymmetric units that are actually rather interesting. This is just lazy design for the sake of lazily balancing the game.

If the goal was game balance then it failed utterly. I haven't played FS or US, but DW is horribly balanced, mostly internally but some externally as well within the 4 factions.

It's a good beer and pretzels game (as in, not competitively compatible in the least), but I tried to play it competitively and between the internal faction balance and their forum community, feel dumber for having tried.

@sourclams Can you elaborate? I personally do not play any game competitively so do not understand what is needed for a game to succeed in that area.

Honestly the only competitive experience I can relate to is the current 40k CSM codex. When it was released the rules seemed to have been simplified and I heard rumors that was the new format to make the game friendlier to the competitive environment.

Obviously this is the opposite of what Spartan Games is attempting to do. They have created rules for almost every likely possibility and of course there is some confusion and conflicts. But in friendly play a few house rules solve the slight issues and off you go!!

Very different from competitive play but I see a lot of talk about it but really no effort on trying to clarify or explain the issues. What would it take to have a game be playable on a competitive level?

Everyone assumes that everyone else knows what it means to be a competitive game player.

Seeing as GW are getting a 2 fingered salute from me now, I've been looking at Non-GW games to get into. I've just ordered a copy of the Firestorm Rules (15GBP) and a Terran starter Fleet (33 GBP). My 5 other gamming buddies are all buying differnt Factions.

I can see one of them pitching for this new faction. The models are reasonably priced and reviews of the game seem favourable.

A bit of everything really....... Titanicus, Bolt Action, Cruel Seas, Black Seas, Blood Red Skies, Kingdom Death, Relic Knights, DUST Tactics, Zombicide the lit goes on.............

they've got the 'specials' coming out soon which are all asymmetric. one submarine, and several incredibly different kinds kinds of robots, one being a flyer, the other a giant squid, and the last an amphibious walker. all play very differently. and more are in the pipe. the main purpose of the first book and factions is to get out all of the basic type models, then add in a some specials that change up the way different ones work. besides, have you played the game yet? a Kingdom of Britannia landship with a mortar platform on top is completely different and plays totally differently than the Blazing Sun Walker or Prussian Landship. or a Kingdom of Brittania medium flyer(drops mines and has a turret) versus an Federated States of America medium flyer(fires long range rockets and has broadsides) just because they have mostly the same 'class' of ship or vehicle doesn't mean they play even remotely similarly... and just about every modern military in the real world has all the same classes of weaponry, barring a few outliers that have no equal partner(the AC-130 Spectre comes to mind) so i don't see why a sci-fied version of the real world wouldn't follow similar guidelines.

'Ahh, i see the British have made a....an even bigger tank than we have! Wilson, call the President and authorize the funds to design our own!' That conversation has been happening in every country for ~50-60 years in the setting, so i don't see why similar sized vehicles with the same designation aren't the norm.

I must admit I did not like as many of the new models as I had hoped...........
the EotBS Walker is cool - and some of the others would make some cool units in Epic though

I've been thinking along the same lines, although, I would need someone else to play against...! 40k is just too darned popular. However, I've also seen some good firestorm armada battle reps on miniwargaming.com and the models are very nice indeedy...

I for one am ready for the KoB Dread and Destroyers. I've got a handful of completely garbage cruisers and less than useful Battleships. Truth be told, battleships are useful as a double shield gen wall around my "KnuckleDuster" Carrier/Bomber punch, but aside from that, pfft.

Can't wait!

I have to admit, I started trying to get into FA, but theres something about the models....I don't know, very "Marmite"...you either love them or you hate them...

Unfortunately, I'm tending to the second catagory. The FA ships either have too much going on, or they look too plain. It's like someone has thrown a load of electrical connectors and other "bit" together to create a "shape" and bang...theres your ship...and I see the same design asthetics on their other miniatures line....

Man down, Man down....

After purchasing a few models I love how east they are to get up and running. A few small cuts with the hobby knife, one or two drops of super glue and bam off to painting and then the table top.

I haven't played a full game yet for a couple of reasons.

The first one is that I play KoB and everyone complains about how unbalanced they are compared to other armies. I see the weaknesses but I have plans to make up for them but I need some of the models releasing next month to finish off my strategies.

Second there are a lot of players but they only get together or break out their stuff on Sundays, which are religious holidays for me, so no game store for me.

Hopefully I wll be able to convinc3e a few guys to start playing on Saturdays.
