Obama and argentina know where they can shove it, you can't force a country to change who it belongs to, the falklands WANT to be british, obama should know better than anyone about forcing a people to be what they don't want to be

or the fact british rule was re-established there in 1833 from the United Provinces of South America, argentina was formed after this, so they should have no claim since they never had it, unless they wanna rename themselves to the United Provinces of South America

So if Obama would never actually endorse giving sovereign claim to Argentina, why even endorse negotiations? Is Obama just stringing Argentina along, and if so, then isn’t all Obama doing is pissing off our closest ally and the OAS?

Yes, he stringing Argentina along, but that's a big part of diplomacy. The UK isn't the only fish in the sea, and Argentina is an important ally of Brazil.

The US endorsed the ICC as well, yet has never ratified it.

Speaking analogically, I might tell you that you did a good job in a sporting match, even though it would annoy my closest friend. The thinking is that my closest friend will get over it because not doing so involves a major change of life, while I benefit from having a new acquaintance.

Argentina puts out a declaration declaring there claim to the Falklands every few months. Most south American country’s chip in and say they support Argentina's call for “talks”. Purely a token gesture in the name of South American solidarity and maintaining good relations with Argentina, the US just did the same thing.

Nothing ever comes of these things. Argentina never pursues the matter at the UN, because it knows the islanders dont want to be Argentinian. For the UN to support there claim would mean breaching one its founding principles, the right to self-determination.

Indirectly the obama administration is pretty much saying they want Great Britan to negotiate with argentina and have the end results be more favorable to argentina so in a sense saying "Your thread title is politically skewed flamebait" makes you look not just stupid but also makes you look like a troll

To come out on top? No probably not, favorable negotiations for them yes very much so. Well a diminishing diplomatic stance with latin america is decent motivation not to mention it is stated in the link above which I had quoted that the obama administration backs argentina on this.

Me being from Argentina, I would have to say that the country needs to improve a lot more things before thinking of claiming the territory.
