Slaughter in Space Game #4

Slaughter in Space Game #4

Part 4 in our 5 part series!

So this is the beginning of day #2, and I show up late and tired on Sunday. I am really tired and I am a little bit out of it during my first game. I normally work nights, and this is very early for me.

The lists:
My List (in case you have forgot)
HQ
Draigo
Librarian w/Force Staff, Servo Skulls, Shrouding, Sanctuary, Might of Titian, Hammerhand, Quicksilver, Warp Rift

Elite
Purifier Squad
Knight of the Flame w/Master Crafted Demonhammer
3 Purifiers w/Halberd
2 Purifiers w/Psycannons

Troops
10 Paladins w/4 Psycannons, 2 Demonhammers, Halberds, Swords, 1 Falchion, Brotherhood Banner

5 Strike Squad w/Psycannon

Heavy Support
Land Raider
Land Raider

Janthkin’s Tyranids
HQ
Hive Tyrant w/TL Devourer Brainleech Worms, Hive Commander, Wings, Paroxysm, Leech Essence

Elite
3 Zoanthropes
3 Hive Guard
8 Ymgarl Genestealers

Troops
10 Termigants
10 Termigants
Tervigon w/Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Scything Talons, Cluster Spine, Catalyst
Tervigon w/Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Scything Talons, Cluster Spine, Catalyst
18 Genestealers w/Toxin Sacs
14 Genestealers w/Toxin Sacs

Fast Attack
20 Gargoyles w/Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs

There was a batrep that had a lot of views that pitted Janthkin’s ‘Nids vs. Purifier based Grey Knights and it had the Nids victorious, so he has had experience with Grey Knight. For some reason I have been playing a lot of 'Nids lately myself.

Mission: Seek Vengance
Slaughter style Kill Points=Units are worth SSKPs equal to their cost/100 (round all fractions down for Troops choices, and up for non-Troops). with only 4 selections counting. So if you have a lot of cheap units, you will only give up a few points, and if you have very expensive units you will give up a ton of points.

So Janthkin Selected:
Paladins=6 Kill Points
Librarian= 3 Kill Points
Land Raider= 3 Kill Points
Land Raider= 3 Kill Points
He said that he choose the units that he did (I only have 7 units to choose from, so only 3 are not getting picked) because I would just hide the PAGKs in the Land Raiders.

I selected:
Hive Tyrant= 3 Kill Points
18 Genestealers= 3 Kill Points
14 Genestealers= 2 Kill Points
20 Gargoyles=2 Kill Points

I choose the units that I did because the Hive Tyrant and the large Genestealer squad where the only ones worth over 2 KPs, the other ones have to get into assault if he wants to get my KPs so he will not be hiding them.

You misspelled my name. We've been teammates for...6 years, I think? And you can't spell my name correctly? :(

That would be my army, the Crowe-Purifier list. (BTW, batrep can be found here for those interested to see how I got my purifier butt kicked.)

Paladins are a tough matchup for tyranids. Besides the Swarmlord and 9 hive guards, nids don't have a whole lot of insta-killing offense. They certainly don't have any AP1/2 shooting that paladins have to really worry about, with the exception of the zoanthropes. Janthkin would probably have a fit against this one Grey Knight army I went up against recently with 20 paladins and 5 units of henchmen in chimeras led by Coteaz.

How come your KP's are worth a total of 15 and Janthkin's are only worth 10?

It's the strange nature of the "Slaughter Style Killpoint," which is actually a variant on VPs, not KPs.

Units are worth SSKPs equal to their cost/100 (round all fractions down for Troops choices, and up for non-Troops). So my 306 pt 18 genestealer squad was worth 3, as was my 285 pt Tyrant.

I am getting more and more excited about playing Paladins. I've got everything assembled and I'm painting it up now.

Great job in the game Blackmoor.

They were fun to use, but some armies just do not have an answer for them so that does not always makes the game fun. I think going forward people will have to start to account for a way to kill paladins. I always like small elite armies and my play style fits right in with them because they make an awesome deathstar unit.

Coming up is game #5 game against a Drop Pod army with 8 Dreadnoughts.

@Janthkin and Blackmoor

Oh, I see. Thanks.

That would suck to play against a MSU army with no expensive units at all then. You could potentially kill all those nominated units and still lose if those paladins had died.

Honestly, that seems like a pretty terrible mission, and a not particularly exciting battle as a result.

Pretty much. I was tempted to just avoid him completely, as extracting points from that Paladin doom-star was going to be hard, but I tried to see if I could dump both 'stealer units into the Pallies at once; the difficult terrain rolls denied me there.

I predict Quicksilver + Might of Titan = 6 dead vehicles in one assault phase.

I think the most exciting aspect of playing a paladin army is carrying 20 models around in an 1850pt list. I can transport the whole army in a shoebox!!

The librarian and his paladin combat squad ended up getting locked in assault with one dreadnought for 5 assault phases before they broke and ran.

That is one huge advantage. I am going to the Nova open in late Aug and the army is small enough I can have one piece of luggage, and fit my army into my personal carry on bag so I don't have to pay to check anything.

Bay Area

The game was a bit anti-climatic, but that's to be expected due to the mission.

Nevertheless, Good battle report.

I look forward to reading game 5. It's rare to see an 8 Dreadnought Drop Pod army.

Another poor mission. Really bad design there. I can't tell if this or the building one was worse.

Thanks for the report, though! Cool to see you two mix it up.
