Hey all,

I've been a long time poster on Dakka, but as I recently decided to start a new army I figured it was high time I started a blog to showcase my progress.

From a fluff standpoint, the regiment will be from Donner's Reach, a far flung world on the borders of the Imperium. Many years ago Donner's Reach was one of the frontier worlds of the Imperium, as it sat at the junction between Imperial Space and a large area of unexplored space. The planet featured a large space port, and had a booming economy thanks to the efforts of the Rogue Traders. This all changed when the Chaos presence emerged. Since then, the planet has been locked in a seemingly never ending war. Mobile tactics that were commonplace when the planet was colonized have since degenerated into static trench warfare. The 73rd Donner Pioneers are one of 12 newly founded regiments that has been sent to the front in an effort to break the stalemate that has fallen on the Targus battlezone. Once the men and machines have been assembled, they will be thrown into the fires of war. Only the emperor can protect them now...

As suggested by my rather poor attempt at fluff, the army is going to be a world war 1 themed army, drawing on certain elements from both sides. The infantry are going to be similar to DKoK models, although I will be making them myself as I can't afford to buy an entire forgeworld army. I will also be drawing my inspiration for the tanks from some of the French tanks, as its something I haven't seen done before. Chimera's will follow the look of the Schnieder tanks, and the MBT will be themed after the St. Chamond. (If someone could post images of either it would be great. I still haven't figured out how to link images)

I haven't quite decided if I should make special rules for the tanks or just use them as normal vehicles and take away from the historical aspect, so if anyone wants to chime in it would be welcome.

At any rate, heres to hoping I can actually finish a project!

Sounds good! What will you be basing your infantry off of? Steel Legion? Or maybe Cadians with ALOT of gs?

Posting pictures isn't too hard. First you upload them to your gallery (go to your gallery and select "Upload More Images" in the "Summary" section). Once the picture is uploaded, open the picture you want to post, and scroll down below the picture where it says "Share This Image". Copy the code out of the "Forums" line and paste it into the post you're working on.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

Yep, i'm keen to see what happens with this army. Are you gonna go with the brettonian bodies maybe? Otherwise i always like seeing how people try and alter the standard cadian models to fit their themes. Looking forward to some pics

I'm thinking of just greenstuffing Cadians to have greatcoats. I might even go as far as to order some DKoK weapons sets to further tie them in with a trench warfare atmosphere. My issue with brettonian bodies is that I haven't found a place to get a lot of them for cheap, so they're out of the picture unless someone can suggest something.

At any rate, heres a couple pics of one of the WIP track units for the first tank

Sorry for the crappy phone pics. My cameras in the shop, so that was out. I will try to get some better images when it gets back though.

Comments and criticisms are welcome!

Have you looked at Wargames Factory's Great Coats nice work on the treads. This website has cardstock templates for the tanks http://www.mylinuxisp.com/~wmccullough/PaperPanzers.html

Thanks for the link! I might use the card for the main hull. I'd rather actually make the treads though. Somehow putting effort into something makes you that much more proud of it I still have to add suspension components to the top of the lower wheel guard. I might leave the top portion open though.

I also had a look at the great coat storm troopers. I'm not a huge fan of the heads, although the bodies aren't bad. If anything I'd say they're a little lacking in detail. I'm pretty sure I know what heads I'm going to use though.

I saw these at the local store on a friends guard and I thought they looked really good. If I combined the two (steel helmet & steel + netting) with the Wargame factory bodies and forgeworld weapons, do you think that could pass as reasonably convincing WW1 soldiers?

Possibly, though these ones would be useful for marking out officers.

I'm using the Brits from that game, decent models that are metal and still cheaper than GW's plastics.

That would be an excellent basis for the infantry. Personally I think the flexibility provided by plastic is always good and it's far easier to add than remove details. Believe me treads are as awkward in card as they are in plasti-card. Also they do have proper Pickelhaube (the spiky german helmets on there) and also "Tommie" heads which I don't believe changed. Good luck.

Brodie Helmets.

Between the Mk.I (WW1 - 1940) and the Mk.II (1940 - 1944) the differences were in the strap and the Mk.II having a 'smoother' dome to it.

I had a look at the spiked helmets. To be honest I don't want the troops to look ready for a gas attack. I may model some gas masks around their belts though.

Sorry for the late update, I've been busy at work.

I got some more work done on the tank though. The main hull and both sets of treads are now done. Now I need to get my armor plates on, as well as the gun and other major components. Then I get to rivet it....oh joy. Again I apologize for the crappy cellphone pics. These are slightly better than the last though (I think)

I've been working on some special rules for this thing. Its not that much bigger than a russ (same width, 2cm longer, same height) so I was just going to run it as a turretless version, albeit with some special rules. I'll post up the rules I came up with when I get them roughly finalized

As always, comments and criticisms are welcome
