Hi there,
been modelling some Grey Hunters, and getting idea from the codex, when suddenly I realised most of the GHs in the codex were modelled holding both a bolter and a chain sword.
So my question is: Why can't I model all of my grey hunters holding both the bolter and the chain sword? Is it simply due to the amount of single handed bolter arms the pack comes with or is it something more. I don't actually play 40k so the rules elude me, I simply enjoy painting, but would like to learn at some point in the future, hence trying to model my GHs all legally.
Any one who knows could you please inform me as to whether I can model them like this, and whether or not it is actually a good idea? As far as I know the bolter is better than the bolt pistol, but having the chain sword there as well will help if I get my GHs stuck into CC. Please inform me if I'm wrong.

Cheers Dakka community,

James from NZ

It's just the bits that are included. That's all. They inherently have a bolter, bolt pistol, and chainsword due to the "True Grit" ability (if I remember correctly).

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Ok, so from what you are saying I take it to mean that it doesn't really matter how I model them, when it comes to GHs they have all of the above equipment anyway, it's just up to me how I want them to look? Is that what you are saying?

Correct.

If you're really worried about it, I would invest in a Codex, if not simply just to start some ideas for building an army, learning the units, and looking at pretty pictures of your army

I've had a look in the codex and cannot find any mention of this special ability, and looking online it seems that in 5th this rule has been removed. It seems only the GKs have this rule now, not anyone else, if this is the case what do I do for my GHs, do I need t model them or does the rule "counter attack" play some role here? Any more input would be much appreciated.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok so I just read in the codex under "War Gear" for Grey Hunters that they have: Bolt Pistol, Close Combat Weapon and Boltgun, along with 'nades and the rest, so I assume this means they have these options no matter how I model them, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

Basically yeah, they come equipped with a chainsword, bolt pistol and bolter by default and because of this you don't necessarily need to have ever single one on the model. I made a load for my fiancée and I just gave them all bolters to differentiate them from Blood Claws visually.

If memory serves it's only the additional wargear you can purchase (power weps/flamers etc.) that need to be modelled specifically to conform to WYSIWYG.
