I was thinking of getting in on playing KoW, but I also play WHFB as VC, is it generally acceptable to have my armies mixed and matched, provided they have all equipment etc etc.
LOVE Mantic Skeletons and the cavalry!

Yep, as long as your opponent and the store give the go-ahead, you're free to use what you want.

Should normally be no problem, as Mantic Undead are close to Warhammer Undead in looks and weapons and intended as alternatives.
Only some GW stores have this GW-only rule.

Regretfully my local GW is very VERY harsh on this stuff.
Hell, mention the word 'Proxy' they go in a uproar

Stop ging GW store...
Get your garage, a table and call some friends for the weekend...
Dont endorse GW aptitude, instead, make your own alternative.
If the store go uproar when you say "proxy", proxy the store itself.
Dont accept lower quality/higher priced products only because everyone do the same, teach then te nice way around

Dwarf some people dont have that option.
My gw they just say if you proxy something then you have to check with your opponent.
Personally I converted my bsb from a model not from gw and basically I had it explained to me like this.
Its a business and advertising for another company isnt very cool to do so ya I dont proxy much but ya its their call in the end.

Yeah the GW dilemma. It's a tough call, in my area I'd have to drive 45 minutes there and back to a store, while a GW is 5 minutes away. GW is the only place to play a fantasy game, other stores no one shows up to play. But the prices do suck, it's getting out of control. My 10 year old nephew is interested and I'm trying to help him pick an army and it's like hey if you don't go Orks, Space Marines, High Elf or Skaven, to get models from the stater sets cheap on ebay don't even play. He really is into Orcs and it's just too expensive, $45 for a book, $30 for 10 orcs, $45 for 10 black orcs? He has no income he'd be looking at getting his models for birthday and Christmas and then deciding if he would rather new models or new video games or whatever else kids play. If I try and convince a friend they are looking at $200 for an army at 1k points. No one wants to pay that just to try the game out. Basic economics, lower the prices sell more. I'm into 5 armies at the moment and need maybe $100 to finish them off and I'm done.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

I feel your pain maybe orges few models means less money.
I went with warriors of chaos and without all the fancy characters that I just liked the look of you can get a decent sized army for quite cheap since a warrior is 16 points and the lords and heroes cost an arm and a leg.

I've never had a problem proxying SOME models at my local GW (and it's a very large one). Though don't expect to bring those models into tournaments at GW and get away with it. A lot of times I will 'hide' a bunch of proxied stuff into big blocks. I do this with my large hordes of skelly warriors. About half are Mantic and the other half GW. Nobody has said a word to me yet unless I point it out to them. Of course I don't do tourny's that often so I have yet to try this at a tourny. If you are playing at a FLGS it shouldn't be an issue at all. Personally I hope Mantic succeeds in their buisness model as that will put a lot of pressure on GW to get their act together and come back to earth with their pricing and so forth. Highly doubtful but we'll see.
