hey everyone...
im trying to give some of the marines in my custom chapter (the sons of hephaestus) some bigger, or more ornate shoulderpads... for both tactical marines and terminators
i was thinking of converting some of the grey knights shoulderpads, which is a good start, but not really what im looking for.
i dont have epic greenstuff skills, but if someone knows some monkey proof tutorials i will defiantly try them out
so basically what im looking for are suggestions, links to excisting shoulderpads, tutorials or links to tutorials...
any help is really appreciated!
thanks

If all you're after is larger pads then you could make a press-mould to add GS to the normal plastic pads. You just need to make 1 nice smooth version of each type of pad you want to copy. Wait for it all to dry then you press it into a block of fresh GS with some vaseline to sto it sticking. Then you can add GS and press into the new mould for each new pad. I did a similar thing for my Firebat's fuel tanks. It's an easy way of getting consistent results.

Putting Termy shoulder pads on tactical marines is easy enough.
But there's nothing so obvious available for Termies...

that would just make them very bulky, wich isnt a bad thing, but not really what im looking for...

Try scibor miniatures for really ornamental shoulderpads for your termies. They look gak on normal marines since the shoulderpad is the size of their torso. Greyhunter shoulderpads are good, or normal pads with greenstuff on them.

Are you talking about putting thicker rims on the pads? thats easy, just grab thin strips of plasticard, glue it on, snip off the ends once its set, and file it down smooth.

I can show you images of some models I did with thick rims. It takes a few tries till it starts looking awesome, but most people wouldn't be able to tell. One or two strips of plastic glued over the rims works, any more and youll have trouble with posing/fitting with the powerplant. Just be sure to be sparing with your glue or it becomes a mess. I think I finished some of my 1k sons this way, or, maybe my 'slaughtermen'. I will see if I can post images, my brother hijacked my good camera, otherwise I'll dig through my older images see if I can find something. ------------ EDIT: actually, I found one of the guys I have thicker rims, this one didn't turn out as well because I tried to put a groove into the rims. Still, if you use a flat file to smooth off the uneven edge and narrow it down along the strip, you can get a thick-rimmed pad... I am for now still assuming that is what you wanted. http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/222928-.html?m=2 also: i know the paintjob is gak.

found part of my answer in the Sons of Orar WIP thread by SONS of ORAR. he posted the following pictures:
and
and a link to his thread so im referring not stealing
this gives the shoulderpads a nice myrmidonic look...
raises some questions though:
#would this also work on terminator shoulders?
#is there a way to get the "standard" rim on terminator shoulder?

I dont think so, the terminator pauldrons fit flush, so you wont be able to add to it from the outside as was done on these, but from the outside rims....
The only way you will be able to add to the terminator pad is if you also put some sort of GS, or bit of plasticard on the inside to elevate it a little/to fill the gap created by pushing the pad out.
