I have played Eldar for about 3 years now, and have always been more into the actual gaming than I have been into painting. I've always liked painting, but I am just simply not very good at it. Recently- in large part due to being separated from my Eldar models (planes are a pain). I have decided to create a chaos space marine army- more specifically a Nurgle themed Daemon Bomb. The list won't be as competitive as my Eldar, and I what I really want to do is make it beutiful...errr disgusting. I've only done some really basic conversions for my Eldar (an Autarch built out of bitz from spare aspect warrior boxes, and a pair of Jetlocks for my GJB w/ some noobish GSing) so this is going to be baptism by fire so to speak.

The goal 2000 point army list is as follows

Daemon Prince- Wings, MoN, Warptime
Sorcerer- Bike, MoN, Melta Bombs, Familiar, Nurgle's Rot, Doombolt

7 Plague Marines- 2 meltas, icon, champ, rhino
7 Plague Marines- 2 meltas, icon, champ, rhino

6 Bikers- IoN, 2 meltas, champ

7 Havocs- IoN, 4x auto cannons

Greater Daemon
14 Lesser Daemons
14 Lesser Daemons
14 Lesser Daemons

I was somewhat annoyed that I can't use any god specific Daemons, and everything has to be generic. So creating interesting Daemons will be part of what I plan on doing. One thought I had was to use Zombies as my summoned lesser daemons, to represent the desised population falling upon the opposing army. I'd probably buy a bag o zombies for cheap (~10$ for 100 zombies) then convert them a bit and get some spare GW bases. Is this a good idea?

To start things off I have ordered a Greater Daemon online (its not one of the citidel ones, but most of you will probably recognize him, I'll post a pic when he gets here this week. I'm pretty excited for him.

I also have 6 chaos bikes from ebay (I always buy bikes off ebay...) Then it'll be time to hit the GS and try my hand at nurgle modeling!

As for inspirations svartmetall at relicnews forums has some amazing nurgle stuff. But if anybody has some specific advice about modeling Nurgle stuff I would love to hear it!

Related, I really am liking the look of the finecast nurgle DP I'll definitely be investing in that when I have a bit more pocket change (my brother made me buy DoW 2 Retribution...)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Alright this is pretty cool, I got my greater daemon in the mail, he seems a bit small, but that just means he'll need a nice tall base to make up for stuff. I definitely need to make him look more imposing.

I'm going to use this post to provide some "before pics" normally models look better in the "before" pic as opposed to the "after" pic, but since this is Nurgle... they should look healthier before . Unfortunately I had to use my phone on my desk, since I don't have a camera or a good place to take pictures at this point.

Anyway its time to play

"whose that Greater Deamon?"

and a close up of his lovely face(s)

I'm sure most of you recognize him- hes pretty distinctive. I figure people who know who he is will be quite intimidated when they see him pop out of a champion and charge into their lines
Spoiler text contains his name in case you don't recognize him
Spoiler:
Demogorgon

Unfortunately he seems a bit unimposing, next to the W40K stuff. Its a shame me the model isn't larger- because it is awesome. I'm sure some imposing basing can go a long way to making him appear larger on the tabletop. Here is a picture of him close to several of my brand new bikes

Anyway here are a few before pics of the Chaos Bikers. I got these off of ebay (I can usually get 6 for ~60 dollars, which is far better then buying them from GW...) They already have a few conversions done by their former owner, and most of the model is primed, in what looks like a dark brown/red color.

and the converted melta gunner

this last pic didn't turn out very well, but its the Aspiring Champ, with a very intimidating skull on his bike, and some nifty blades coming out the front!

Anyway, those are the pictures as taken before any work has been done by my hand! so if anybody has any tips as to how they'd tackle this I would be greatly obliged to know, otherwise it'll just be trial and error- fortunately for me if the marines start looking bloated its not a bad thing

Ok, So I busted out my GS this evening. This is really the first GS work I have ever really done. I've used modeling putty before- but it was a different brand, and it handled a lot differently than GS does. I got a bit more fluid with it as the evening progressed, and I got some interesting things going on.

This is certainly going to be an ongoing project. I recon I'll slowly run through GSing all of my bikes, then go back and redo the earlier ones, etc until I get some fantastic models. I'm not really concerned with the models looking "bloated" as the plan for them is to be Nurgle Bikers anyway.

Without further ado, here is my very first gs converted Biker!

The most noticeable feature of this guy is that I have his eyeball dangling out of his helmet, and a bit of drool or puss dripping from his helmet. painting that eyeball should be interesting to say the least! I'm not really feeling top of his helmet at this point. I'm probably going to need to trim it off and put something more scraggly in there, as he is a worshiper of nurgle after all, can't have anything too healthy on him!

I also did some additions to his bike, but nothing to complicated. There is a tentacle on the other side of bike, but I couldn't get a good picture of it, so I'm just going to go with just a side shot of the bike. The GS orb attached to one of the horns is an eyeball (and has an eye carved into it). This angle also gives a better view of the GS work on the side of the marine It was somewhat covered up by the lighting in the first picture.

The model still needs just a ton of work, but I'm fairly happy for my first expience with GS. Hopefully this blog will progress to the point where I'm no longer a total noob! As always any advice would be hugely appreciated <3

Hi ok, this is gonna bit a bit long, hope you don't mind

first of all, losing an army sucks, srsly! But CSM is cooler anyways

Before I start with anything specific I can just give you the most important advice when it comes to p&m - try the stuff you want to do out - on something unimportant or bits or whatever. It's always so painful to have a fully painted dude and go "hmm... couldn't he need a bit of weathering?" and the you screw up... so annoying!
Just to mention it, that list sounds quite fun, dunno how it's gonna do though... maybe a few to few troops? dunno o.O But you should consider splitting your lesser deamons into smaller sized squads, that worked pretty well for me. But just try it
Being honest, I would not buy cheap zombies and use them... I would stick with GW or at least wargaming miniatures tbh just because you will see the difference in origin a lot, believe me... Also toyzombies will probably be way less detailed and/or won't fit in size and stuff... But if you can find something fitting, go for it!
If you want to have some real epic greater deamon, you can always try to model some parts of it, maybe do him at last so that you've got some improved sklills? If you wanna keep him as he is though, you should put him on a huge stone or something otherwise he would look just way too small.
For those bikes I would consider stripping them or at least taking good care of any leftover moldlines and maybe chipping of paint where it is too thick, can't really tell about their state though as pics are a bit blurry u.u
As you've mentioned that quite some times now, I recommend you to take good care of keeping the models details sharp and not blur it all together as some do with their nurgle armys.
For the GS work, looks fine but could use a bit more definition and has some mistakes... First thing I noticed is that your GS looks kinda "glued" to the mini and not as a conversion of it, you know what I mean? Key for good GS work is a wet tool and working in layers, that way you can prevent big bumps of GS and get smoother connections between miniature and GS but you're on the right track my first GS work looked horrifying To nurglify dudes I found it always good to put a little bit of nurgle all over it and not just the face or so. Also you could go for those like "nurgled" legs and stuff dunno, maybe take some other blogs as inspiration and try to make every unit different cause mine tend to look all the same u.u
That tentaclethingy thing on the bike looks awesome as a first layer to work upon! Just put some GS on it and carve one of those nurgletextures in it and it will look awesome!

Afterall I don't want my post to occur like a big "ah you're so bad", cause you aren't but to give some critic on where to improve. This might turn our pretty amazing so keep on rocking as I'm definitely waiting for updates
