Think I have finalised my VC army I am going to collect, this might change radically depending on what the new VC releases will be like (loving the new necro) This is a lot different than the standard VC builds but I like a challenge (or glutton for punishment, take your pick )

Vampire Lord; Nightmare, Red Fury, Forbidden Lore (beasts), Walachs Bloody Hauberk, Sword of Striking (370)

Wight King; BSB, Royal Standard of Strigos, Steed + Barding (155)

Necromancer; extra spell (IoN, VDM) Corpse Cart (145)

40 Ghouls (320)

40 Ghouls (320)

10 Black Knights; FC, Barding, Banner of Barrows,(355)

12 Black Knights; FC, Barding, Icon of Vengence (391)

5 x Dire Wolves (40)

5 x Dire Wolves (40)

Varghulf (175)

Varghulf (175)

Total = 2486pts

BSB and Vamp ride with the 10 man Black Knights both Black Knight units will be screened by a Dire Wolf unit, varghulfs go hunting for war machines or whatever else gets in their way am Corpse Cart supports the Ghoul Hordes, I have no idea what to spend the last 10 points on so thoughts would be welcome and as always C&C welcome

I would personally swap out the Dire wolves and the Black Knights for Grave Guard. I never play VC without them. Last night I ran 30 with a Banner of the Barrows and a Wight King with the Drakenhof banner and lost 1 GG ( they charged a unit of Witch Elves and decimated them). Black Knight sand Dire Wolves really took a hit in 8th edition (cavalry isn't as useful and Dire Wolves lost being Fast Cav).

I know GG are a very tough unit but it seems every skeleton and his undead dog are running them these days, I wanted to try a unique build (and it will fit nicely with my Bretonnian fluff for the army) I would feel as though that I would have sold out if I include a unit of GG and the army wouldn't feel as though it was mine with my own stamp on it.

Having said that when I am done with this army I fully intend to build another 2500 points when I can, to represent the Castle Guard of my questing Vamp lord, this would definitely be a more standard build and will maybe post a list up when I finish playing about with it.

Still stuck on the final 10 points was thinking maybe the ironcurse Icon on the lord but that would leave me with 5 points kicking about doing nothing

LIke the way you want to build a unique army that dosent have GG.
Ive been playing with GG alot and nowdays i feel almost little tired of them being so good. Ive been latly skippin GG and instead have a big unit of ghouls with regen banner. Spellcaster with lore of light, lots of wraiths and blood knights. Have been working well and is very fun to play. Its a bit more risky than the solid GG build, but that is the point, its more fun when you gamble as much as you can

Thank you for the support, I like the idea of a Lore of Light casting vamp and was toying with the idea of having a Vamp Lord and two ordinary Vamps all with forbidden Lore and Light, it would be nice to get a S6 banishment (I cant remember where I stole this idea from so apologies for the lack of reference) might try and work this setup in the next 2500.

The thing with the regen banner is that I am not completely sold on it as there is so may flaming attacks that just make it a large points waste, being a Wood Elf player at present I can attest that regen would play very little part in any game I would play

This list is also an attempt to give cavalry some credibility as no one seems too impressed with cavalry in this edition, hopefully that will be in my favour as most shooting/magic would get directed at the ghoul hordes and I can always summon more of them.

Your Vamp doesn't seem legal to me. You have to have Dread Knight to get a Nightmare (unless that's a winged Nightmare). Also, Blood Drinker is a great magic weapon to have in a cavalry unit. Every wound brings back a fallen Black Knight! Give your BSB the regen banner or the 5+ ward save vs. missile weapons and that unit is incredibly difficult to kill.

The Vamp is Legal, you can only get a barded Nightmare by taking Dread Knight, it is otherwise listed as a mount available under the lord Army book entry, you can also buy the Winged Nigtmare (Hellstead) but that would be suicidal with no look out sir save (you would have to have him on his own to benefit from fly).

I like the idea of the Blood Drinker might try it out sometime, my aim with the Lord was to have him striking almost any enemy on a 2+ an wounding on a 2+ (hence Lore of Beasts to get Savage Beast of Horrors off) would be nice if I could get the Corpse Cart supporting with some ASF fun.

You're correct, hadn't noticed that before...

One thing though, Walach's bloody hauberk is 45 points and gives Heavy Armor with a 5+ ward save. Armor of destiny in the Rulebook is heavy armor with a 4+ ward save and is 50 points. I don't see why you wouldn't take the Armor of Destiny, you have the points and the allowance.

Very good catch If I give my Lord Armour of Destiny and the Ironcurse Icon I will will have used that last 10 points I had kicking about.

IMO dont give ur bsb the ward save banner for missliles. I think its totaly useles for at fast striking unit like black knights or blood knights. The blood drinker concept makes them top wounds on the charge almost evry fight anyways. And the ethereal movment often makes the enemy able to shoot at them once before they clash.
My idea with a spellcasting lord is that you want him with 2 extra dices and lore of ligt. And if evrything goes right you know have all ur units within 12, ASF, Re-roll to hit, 3+ to hit against almost every opponent with ws10. And then they are 6+ to hit back! (1- to hit with "phas" and ws10)

Like the way oppenets in that case twist their faces and like " OOhh gak so thats lore of ligt couldent imagine have powerful that lore was"

Vampire Lord needs Ghoulkin.

With how fast that army is, the ghouls starting another 8" forward would be good.

Split the necro off the cart. You lose a lot of options, and put all your eggs in 1 basket for only gaining a 6+ armor save.

I'd swap wolves for fellbats, but that's just me.

Doesn't that make him a little more vulnerable to being sniped? Whereas if he's on the cart he's only hit with shooting on a 5 or 6?
