Howdy.

I've recently decided to jump into 40K, and I think I'm going to end up going Black Templars. I like assault. Or, having never played a game before, I think I like assault. BTs are really limited on good assault units, but the ones they have are pretty decent.

My question is, if I showed up at my local store with a list that included two LRCs full of BT Assault Terminators, would I automatically be TFG? Is that the sort of thing that should be kept for more "serious" play?

As long as you aren't an ass about it, you should be fine.

Yeah, TFG is in the person, not the list. Maybe don't bring it out twice against a guy if he obviously doesn't have the army to deal with it the first time. But I (and many other people) like playing competitive armies. Gauge your friends' opinions and try not to be an ass, as said above.

What? No. Not at all. Even if you built the powergamiest, cheesiest, most Internet list in the entire world, you wouldn't necessarily be TFG. If you were a jackass the entire time, then yeah you might be TFG.

Well, a two Raider BT List at 2000 is basically the two Raiders, their Terminators, and three Rhinos of Crusader Squads. I'm not sure I'd put it in the realm of competitive by a long shot.

Not at all. Deathwing play the same way and no one has a problem with them.

It's not like we're talking 3x long fangs units with missile launchers or something.

If anything, I'd pity your choices, and then warm up 24 Lances in my 1850 DE list.

...
Wait, that might make *me* TFG.

Pretty sure you can't be 'that guy' without playing marines. It's a pre-requisite in 40k imo.

Depends on the points level and opponents.

At 1250pts against most Tyranid armies? Yes, you'd probably be a "TFG".

At 1500pts against Mechanized IG? You're fine.

At 2000pts against anything? It's hard to see it as unbalanced in any conceivable way.

If your book lets you take 3 LRs then I have no problems with someone wanting to use units listed in his army book.

Its up to GW to make a balanced system, Its not the players job to have to self regulate.

Besides its been a long time since 3 LRs was considered scary.

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

I still don't like them. Though with three, it might be hard for you to keep them all away from my Tankbustas.

If people take offense, classify them as trashy people and find other place to play. If you don't have another place, show up and troll their crappy lists.

LRs are not incredibly hard to counter if you know you will be fighting them, which after a game or so they should against you. It's not list tailoring to prepare for AV 14 as a lot of people play SM and the LR is very common and iconic.

Black templars don't have that much going for them, use all the raiders you want. I wouldn't complain.

BTs really need 5 Landraiders before they even get remotely cheezy(and they really just become competitive)

TFG is about your attitude, not your lists. if you are a jerk, constantly cheat/lie, and basically make an out of yourself, then yeah, you would be a TFG.

Basically this.

I'd cringe at having to take on the LRC/Termie spam, but the list doesn't make the player a TFG. TFG's are solely defined by attitude.

TFGs typically build illegal lists and lie about their points values or they build horrible lists and its all in their attitude.

Ha knock your self out I think your about to find out how many tools most 5E armies have to deal with two land raiders. They're worth their points. No more no less and have a tenancy to be kind of rock paper scissors. Some armies will laugh your raiders of the boards others will spend the whole game getting shot at by them because they have nothing for them. High cost units like that are a double edged sword. They're great when their on the board but a huge blow when they get removed. If you and your opponent are having fun it doesn't matter whats in your list and don't worry about breaking somebodies hobby with a 4E codex.

its almost a liability to spam Landraiders.

Melta is so easy to bring, and people always bring melta.

only when Landraiders start being fielded in numbers above 4 and they are filled with CC troops do they start becoming a pain.

if they are in Melta range to pop the LRs, the LRs are in range to drop their cargo. at which point the LR becomes fairly disposable.

No, it doesn't. If you are beating your opponents, they just have to step up their game and stop playing at the bad level of play they were at. Dual LRC isn't hard to beat.

But then again, people don't understand MSU so you'll just keep beating them until they figure it out.
