Right, im thinking of starting some fantasy stuff though its not definate.

I like lizardmen, also empire dark elves and VC,

Would you guys be able to highlight some Pros/Cons for these armies.
So far im erring towards Lizardmen as i like the look, but are they atall competitive?

Thankyou guys

Orks is never beat in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die so it don't count as beat. If we runs for it we don't die neither, so we can always come back for anuvver go, see!

Lizardmen

Pros - Very strong magic phase (probably the best in the game) and strong close combat troops.
Cons - Skirmishing troops (i.e. skinks) are not as great as they were in 8th, but they still have their uses.

Empire

Pros - Very strong missile phase (including monster killing cannons!), can field large numbers of infantry and quite a few cheap wizards too.
Cons - A bit weak in close combat, but can counter this with large numbers

Vampire Counts

Pros - Unbreakable troops and Vampires are some of the strongest characters in Warhammer
Cons - Fear is not what it once was and your core troops are never going to actually do any damage (aside from Ghouls).

Dark Elves

Pros - Surprisingly cheap core troops, good missile troops and strong magic phase.
Cons - Weak light armoured troops can't take much punishment

Lizardmen -
PROS - Very strong magic phase, annoying shooting units, core units are strong in close combat, resistant to leadership tests.
CONS - Slow main combat units, low initiative, magic reliant to compensate for movement and initiative.

Empire -
PROS - Strong shooting, access to all basic lores of magic, cheap troops, balanced army with lots of unit variety, jack of all traits
CONS - Weak stats on troops, needs synergy to win, jack of all traits

VC -
PROS - Point effective core horde unit in the form of Crypt Ghouls, strong elite units, characters have a lot of options to fit your army and playstyle, can afford to lose models.
CONS -Magic reliant, general reliant, no shooting, rinse and repeat gameplay most of the time.

Dark Elves -
PROS - Can compete in all phases, fast hard hitting army, on par with Empire in terms of unit variety, variety in army lists, access to strong monsters and various mounts.
CONS - Low toughness troops and characters, low armor troops, can't afford to lose units, proe to heavy warmachine fire, not a lot of options to deal with hordes.

ok thanks, im not massively familiar with fantasy. So would you guys recomend Lizardmen as a good army, I like the models and the fluff ive read.

SO from the Lizardy cons listed I need to try and focus thier magic and make my core stuff survive till it can actually hit someone?
so lots of shields im guessing?
Thanks guys

Lizzie base tactics are as follows:
Step 1: Deliver hurt via magic and sallamanders.
Step 2: Finish survivors off with saurus.

Thats the basics but the details can vary greatly, chameleon skinks terradon riders, skinks and all the other units can be used to support or even augment this tactic. Have a dig around the tactics foeum for more details.
