I can't play EVE tonight, this is very annoying as my girlfriend is out and I have the evening to myself, several beers and lots of internet spaceships to shoot at.
The reason I can't play is the servers have been attacked, as have the Minecraft servers

Hackers directly targeting gamers for lols? It never used to be this way, it used to be to get one over on 'the man' and to see how far you could push. In my day pr0 hackers had at least a superficial veneer of antihero coolness. Now it seems being a is FOTM.

TL;DR Asshat hackers.

Meh. I say these guys will disappear or get arrested after a little bit. Their MO is getting so predicatble and they're already cocky as hell. They'll be caught and in the end, besides Sony (that was the same guys right?) they probably won't do too much damage.

I think that at the minute they are on some sort of crusade to prove how little effort most companies are putting into security. Which I feel is a very important service, reminding consumers that massive corporations (e.g. Sony) give that little a crap about the people that keep them afloat that they won't fork out on decent security (storing customer account details in unencrypted plaintext? wtf!) and reminding corporations that they have to consider their digital security seriously if they want to stay in business.

OTOH, I am not sure what they were expecting of the Minecraft servers, its what, 8 people running the entire of Minecraft development & website, and they are still too small to warrant a massive server security operation. I think the fact they are going after small indy games places indicates their crusade is getting a bit too far.

I cannot hack myself, but I willingly admit that I support any and all white-hat hacking attempts. Although I condemn any black-hat activity (any shade of grey is decided on a case-by-case basis)

Ya'd think if they want to be noticed they'd go after something that matters, like WOW.

I'd love to see WoW-Actizzard get destroyed in a massive, unprecedented hack. I do however believe Bobby Kotick and his mercenary squad would be launching some sugical paramilitary strikes in response as they did on Infinity Ward.

I thought that as well, although Warcraft has suffered hacks and the like before, so maybe they have made sure their security is better these days. Who knows.

We'll know quickly enough if WoW goes down mind, the enraged cries of rabid gamers will echo across the internets within moments of its fall.

Personally I think with the hacking rampage they're doing it's only a matter of time until they get caught.

League of Legends is free, so what are they trying to prove again?

They're trying to prove nothing. Elements of popular culture like to idealize hackers as the gangsters/rebels/freedom fighters of the internet. In reality, most of them are either trying to make money or just want to ruin other people's days.

I personally can't wrap my head around the idea of them attacking 4chan, as well as 62,000+ people's email address, and taking requests, for people to attack, it just sickens me, why can't people just grow up, and get a job, or contribute positively to their society.
