Okay, so I'm assembling some drop pods. Okay, I know dreadnoughts can deploy via drop pods, but it seems like they are way too big for my pods. Is there a larger, dreadnought sized pod? If there is, do I have to buy it, or can I field them from the smaller pods?

YOu can use the normal pods for Dreads, but Forge World do an actual Dread sized one if you're that fussed

I see in the gallery that a bunch of people just use a normal drop pod and then leave the harnesses out of it. Since I don't like the harnesses anyway, I was thinking about just going that route, but was wondering if anyone was going to give me crap for not having them if the pod is deploying infantry.

Will anyone? Who knows.
Is it likely to happen? Probably not.
If it does? Ask your opponent, "Really now?" If they persist, then pick up your models and find someone that's not a toolshed to play.

Scale isn't important in 40k. For example your not going to get 10 space marines into a rhino without the aid of a blender.

There was this bit you seem to have missed.
Also, there ARE templates floating around on the internets for a 3 finned dread pod that WILL fit a dreadnought into them (regular height plastic SM dread fits - don't know about the FW resin mks or the ven dread.). They do need blinging up and a fair bit of work to detail up, but they do work.

I caught it, I just don't want to buy Forgeworld stuff. There are two people in my area who do most of the tourneys, and one of them seems to be of the opinion that Forgeworld models are not legal. I just want to avoid a conflict with him.

Forgeworld rules are not legal, but forgeworld models are as legal as anything GW puts out, or anything that you build/convert yourself.

It's also applies to the fact that FW makes some models for units that GW doesn't (Hydra/Medusa/Collossus)

They can be used with your opponents permission.
Anything can.
That said you need your opponents permission to play a game so go figure.

How would that even work? Is he going to start crying because your drop pod is too drop poddy? Going to throw a hissy fit because that space marine with a bolter is too not like that other space marine with a bolter?

Well, he's a rules Nazi, but it is his tournament, so I just have to play by his rules then. And, tragically, it's a six hour drive to the nearest other area with regular tourneys.

All the models are illegal?

Sorry to burst the bubble but this has been done... (and not with a blender) can't find a photo at the moment sorry. I believe it was with the older Rhino kit. Does anyone have a link to a pic?

In his tournaments, yes, all Forgeworld models are illegal. All models must be Games Workshop, not Forgeworld. (I'm not saying I agree with his rules, just that I have to play by them if I don't want to drive a quarter of a day.)

Can't currently find it, but I know the picture you're talking about. It was even done with them all sitting down, not like the FW version(Sgt up front with Driver, 3 on each side in the seats, 3 standing down the middle) from IA2.

Wierd considering even GW says they're legal IIRC:/ and isn't forgeworld owned by gw, making it a gw product? I say set his pants on fire as that is the only logical response.
Perhaps you can talk with another of the TO's and perhaps reason with them? but as previously said, it really doesn't matter if your dread can't fit in the drop pod.

Looks like you can't use the official model for the Hydra, Collossus and Medusa! Tough luck playing Guard if you are bad at or hate converting tanks!
