Once upon a time i remember reading that the bigger boss orks had darker green skin as a sign of how hard and high up they are.
Is this still considered true within the fluff? Automatically Appended Next Post: Should my warboss be painted a lot darker than the boys?

Kinda, and kinda not. The reason it's that way in fantasy is due to the existence of the Black Orcs, who are actually a subspecies of orc and not part of the original race (as it were). 40K has no equivalent subspecies of Ork, and so, generally speaking, the change is less dramatic. As far as I know, Orks (as in 40K) do become darker to an extent, but it's mostly a change to an emerald green rather than actual darkening.

Ive painted my Nobs and Warboss first the same as the others, and then I washed them with Devland mud.
So I painted them darker

If their bigger than everyone else, it also means they're older too because they've survived long enough to reach that size. The skin could darken with age, wear and tear.

Actually, if they're a fungus based life form, the green skin color probably comes from a layer of subcutaneous algae (as in lichens). Thus size wouldn't affect the color at all as the species of aglae stays the same & does not change. If anything, I'd think they'd get paler as they got larger, as the thicker, tougher skin would deemphasize the color of the algae.
