Hi everyone! Thanks for the help from my last couple posts here on building up my list and helping me prepare/buy models for my first game of Fantasy!

I had my first game on Friday and my list is below. Here are a couple thoughts that I would like some clarification on whether or not I should keep trying out these units or if I played them right.

1) HoT was my only Mage and I would usually have quite a few power dice left over...I also really like the idea of casting magic and it was probably the most fun I had. Other than my Letters in CC. I usually had more dice left over so I actually thought of going -Daemonettes -HoS +Pink Horrors +another HoT
Thoughts?

2) Bloodcrushers didn't really do much...one died before getting into CC. Another was almost dead by the time they were in CC. Not sure how good they actually are yet but during the game they didn't really affect much...What should I be sending these guys at?

3) HoK was awesome and HoS and HoT were awesome. All the Heralds performed great.

4) Nettes were cool with their squad and the Siren Song HoS. They didn't kill that much. I wasn't even sure how to run them. I ran their unit 5 wide 4 deep. They seem kind of weak compared to Letter Hordes. What is their purpose? Just to bring Siren Song? I'm envisioning Pink Horrors for an actual role of anvil and holding something down with 4+ wards and another mage in the army. It just seems if I want killy core I should goto Bloodletters...Thoughts on this? Pink Horrors instead?

5) Flesh Hounds got into CC but didn't kill much. This part was huge wiffs on my dice though. All 1's and 2's when all I needed was 3+. Oh well...Flesh Hounds + Blood Crushers performed very poorly but I'm not sure I'm going to attribute that to bad units yet. It was really bad rolling with them. What are your guys thoughts on Flesh Hounds/ Blood Crushers?

6) OMG Flamers are awesome. Not really much to say. They killed stuff and they killed it good.

7) Can a HoT cast spells if hes in a Pink Horror unit and they are in combat?

8) Would you suggest one of the named Lords (Lord of Change or maybe Keeper of Secrets) for 2000 pts level? I don't want my only game to go down so fast and die quickly if they are vulnerable to shooting or if I face a smart opponent :/

9) Letters were awesome. By the time they got into CC they still had 3 rows left in Horde formation. Was awesome. They do so much damage. I'm unsure if I want to even try them in any other formation now other than Horde...they did REALLY good. Does anyone think otherwise? That they should be held in other sizes other than 10 wide and any reasoning to back that up? or is horde just the best way for them?

Thanks again guys for all your help so far. My first game of WHFB was enjoyable!

I think you got the idea. For core the general consensus is Bloodletters<Horrors><(possibly equal to)Plaguebearers<Daemonettes. Overall deamon special choices are disappointing, I personally would not even bother with any of them. Rare it's all about flamers, if you can spare some points fiends aren't bad for war machine hunting/flanking due to their high movement. I think you should expand it by adding in some horrors as a bunker for a HoT or 2, drop the HoS, the daemonettes, the flesh hounds and blood crushers and pick up a 2nd unit of 'letters. As for a greater deamon choice I personally am partial to Keeper of Secrets ASF is really nice with the high I you will be rerolling misses and being able to get Spirit Swallower. Lord of Change looks pretty cool too, level 4 master of sorcery and twin heads means +6 to casting any spell from any chosen lore.>

Ohhh also on casting with the MoT, you can cast all but magic missiles when in close combat.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Thanks Hargus.

If I were to keep the Daemonettes do you guys think I am running too few of them? How many and how wide should you normally be running the Nettes?

Daemonettes go after low AS/T enemies, like empire or elves, letters destroy anything they touch. So typically, letters actually are better. Crushers are meant to hit someone hard in the flank, but they probably aren't the best points for it, I'd actually say hounds to the same job cheaper, plus they are really good at charging in and holding someone for a bit to get into position with one of your larger core blocks. As for a greater daemon, well, get one for 2500+, at 2k they eat up waaaay to many points and you can't even fully kit them out.

And kairos is probably the best wizard in the game IMHO, and I hate him. I hate everything about him. I'd rather face HE with teclis AND book mage before taking the field against that thing...

If you want a GD that doesn't die quickly go for a GUO they have a massive 10 wounds. Bloodcrushers from my little experience play with daemons work best in units of 6 which is expensive and there are better units to spend your points.

You get diminishing returns on daemonettes. Front rank throwing out 2 attacks, 2nd rank only 1.
What I would do is run them in very small units (10-12).
Use them like other armies use fast cav.
Race up a flank, and hit support units, gunlines and warmachines.

The slaanesh standard that forces a unit to hold against a charge is pretty awesome.

Hmm I might try out 40+ pink horrors to tank stuff now that most people are telling me wizards can cast even though the unit they have joined is in combat. Interesting...

I don't think that you get poor return with daemonettes. I think that they require some augments or hexes on opponets (or both) to eat face.

Soulblight or wysian wildform(or both if you can manage) seems to do it for me.

But then that makes me question why get them when you can use Letters for what they do? I'm under the influence from what I have read that they are mostly there for Siren Song...and dealing with hordes. Is this right? How many should I run to make them effective at what they are suppose to be used for?

my ard boyz list has a block of 30 with siren song, and also a block of 30 bloodletters. and 40 Horrors. Daemonettes have ASF so they are always chewing through units, however against T4 troops they need some magical assistance.(Flesh to stone is another good one) Also they are really good at going after blocks of missile troops since they stop the stand and shoot.

I would advise against trying to use a Pink Horror unit with HoT as an anvil. The Horrors are still only T3 and when the Herald gets killed (which shouldn't take too long) they won't benefit from a better Ward Save anymore either.

Blood Crushers are a decent unit but, as you have noticed, Flamers are insane. Since taking Blood Crushers leaves less points for Flamers, I'd advise you to not take any Blood Crushers.

Flesh Hounds are the best Special unit the Daemons of Chaos have. The question is: do you leave any points for special units?

If you want to include Daemonettes, you should ask yourself whether you need a HoS with them. You could also not take Daemonettes at all and just take a second Bloodletter horde!

If I run another Letter squad if I can only get 30 Letters in instead of 40 (where I feel comfortable running them as horde) should I run them 7 wide instead of 10 wide?
