So, I'm working on an ultramarines army, and I intend to take them further down their "honor guard" imagery. Roman style, helmet crests and the like, Legioneer shields as storm shields, etc..

One aspect that many don't know about that I'd really like to make present is the Ultramarines sword fighting skill, emphasized by the fact that nearly all of them carry a roman style gladius.

I'm not sure where to start looking frankly. I kinda stumbled across some romans on google, but I can't judge scale, or see how many gladius would be present, either sheathed or drawn.

I haven't found any upgrade bits that look like them either, does anyone have any clues?

There is one power sword that looks like that, but I'm not sure what kit it comes in. Maybe the Command Squad?

It's the Space Wolf grey hunters set IIRC. Big wolf head on it too though.

Personally I'd use plasticard and a bit of rod to make 'em, but it kinda depends on what tools you have to hand.

This Dark Angel’s knife looks closer to a Gladius than a normal SM combat knife. I reckon with a little bit of green stuff and some trimming it will look pretty similar to Gladius.

Hasslefree do some nice "power" gladius type swords.

Why not just cut WHFB swords down to size and adding the SM power sword hilts? I mean, it's as simple as a v-shaped cut and a trimming of the guard on the hilt.

One of my sergeants has a gladius (in my DA army) and I can't for the life of me remember where I got it... I only had one so it must be out of the command squad box.

Some good idea's here so far. I'm tempted to do some work on the space wolf sword, really I'd love to find some sheathed as well. any experience with roman historical minis? should I look into those ranges?

No, historical swords will be too small.

well, try this line: I HATE linking to WGF since it got taken over, but, this is probably great value for money: you get about... I think 4x7 swords, per box, but then oodles of stuff to convert anything else afterwards you might want to convert.....

Those swords will make a SM combat knife look gigantic.

Well, in all fairness, they are pretty big knives already...

The AOBR captain has a gladius. Maybe you can get some Instant Mold and cast some up?

The old Space Wolf upgrade sprue had a passable gladius, which is what I think is being used in the pick Hobbs linked, and it seems to have moved over to the Space Wolf Termi set.

There all ether too skinny or too long in the blade I would suggest getting a spacewolf one cutting the blade length down and making a hilt and pommel out if green stuff and the grip out of plastic rod then cast them up useibg easymold as others have suggested . And remember to give any bikers the longer spatha and to hang the swords on the right for normal marines and on the left for officers .
