Hey i was going to make an ork warboss look like he is wearing a commisar's uniform and i was wondering if anyone knew how to make a hat out of greenstuff? Or if there are any tutorials already made.

An ork warboss is too big to fit into a commissar's uniform, I think. Even a plain boy would struggle to wear most human clothes.

Have you seen the GW Tankbusta mob nob? - he's wearing a IG greatcoat draped over his shoulders, quite a nice model.

Have you tried converting using Boss Zagstruk as a base?

He's bigger than a nob and has the commissar hat and coat on already.

I haven't seen and tutorials on it but there are plenty of conversions of ork commissars out there.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Make a tube with tapered ends and place on the forehead and smooth into the peak of the cap.

Either allow to set, or otherwise place a ball of GS on the head and smooth in a circular motion over the crown/centre of the head to form a depression in the centre of the GS ball (should look kind of like a shallow bowl on top of the head). Smooth the under hanging edges into the head/peak and press the front of the hat up so that it is raised and flatter.

Allow to set or use a very thin tube of GS around the rear base of the hat from the peak on one side, around to the other side of the peak and flatten to form the band of the hat.

Allow to set and then add a small blob of GS to the raised front section of the cap to make whatever insignia you want to add.

It's not that hard to make with Greenstuff.

Make a small, thin oval, extending 1-2mm out from the models forehead (the black ring)
Make a small circle, and press down in the back of it, so it looks almost like a triangle from the side (red..)
Make an oval, about 1-2mm thick, that's a bit larger than the circle (blue)

don't forget to let it dry for a couple of hours between each step, or you might crush the lower "level" of the cap.

End result should be somewhat like this:

Hope it helps!

[edit: darnit, Silver beat me to it... tossing up the pictures took longer than expected..You can see the cat in the background trying to "help" me steadying the camera.. hence the bad focus..]

Your method is probably easier anyway

@Silver: thanks mate =)

@Achilles 231, I tried to find a tutorial for an entire commissork made by a guy called Nozeminer on The waaagh, but I couldn't find it.

Luckily I had it saved in a document on my computer, so I e-mailed that to you, hoping it'll help you in your endeavour.
All images and text is his work. He's an amazing converter and GS sculpter IMHO, and I've learned gakloads just reading his posts on the waagh.

Good luck mate!

Im actually working on a warboss with a bigchoppa that has a trenchcoat and Im going to put a commissar hat on him. I have a generic commissar that has a rather large hat to begin with, so I figure it will look decent on his head anyways. Tired that route?

I tried that on my first warboss kingcracker, but the cap part was too small, so I had to do that in GS anyways.

So my suggestion is to make the whole cap in GS, and save the money. The only thing a bit more fiddly to do is if you want an emblem, but that can be either cut of from an armourplate/glyph plate, or copied from an existing model with a piece of GS which is then used as a mould...

just my 2 copper.
