I've been building a few models for a little while on this. What started as a "hey, an assault marine sprue and possessed sprue make a neat looking raptor squad" for my Emperor's Children army blossomed when the Blood Angels codex came out, and provided a host of arrogant, vain, high
WS and I heroes to lead an angelic host. Along with some very, VERY elegant models that no vain and self-absorbed Slaanesh lord could resist, I had to try some things out.
These are pictures of a squad I'm working on, combining the Sanguinary Guard with basic chaos marines and the possessed sprue. I added another guy using Scourge wings as well, which I think are absolutely gorgeous. I give the bodies of the scourge to my friend to use for Death Cult Assassins for his new counts-as Grey Knight army, and we alternate back and forth buying boxes so I've got lots more Scourge wings to work with! Anyway here we go:
These first pictures are of some of the basic jump marines. The flaming hand from the possessed sprue will act as a meltagun. The melta pistols will also be melta guns: I love the model of it and how it allows me to make dynamic poses, I just can't fathom paying MORE points for LESS range - keeping my
cc attacks be damned!
These next couple are of a veteran sergeant with a powerfist - note the Slaanesh symbol wrapped around the jump pack engine. A friend got me a couple of these metal Slaanesh vehicle icons, and I've used a couple like this. My chaplain Lemartes sports one as well - they work really well wrapped around the engines like this!
These two are my jump Sanguinary Priests. I've used Fabius Bile's Chirugeon backpack and reversed the mechanical arms. Again, using the single-engine jump pack from the Sanguinary Guard is what made this possible, and I'm quite happy with the results. Sorry the first pic is blurry!
Let's see some paint! These are members of the original raptor squad, using no Sanguinary Guard bits yet. I think once I have some models painted, though, that I'll mix up the squads so that every squad is a mix of jump packs, sanguinary guard wings, possessed wings, and scourge wings so they all look mixed, and then use something else to denote squad differences [that'll be fun]. Pictured here are a regular marine, Aspiring Champion [now sergeant with a power fist, since
BA can't take lightning claws on sergeants], and then a meltagunner and another basic marine that have been taken to the next step. The marines were based lich purple, then warlock purple, and then painted pink. The trim is all going to be gold - the color combo has been tested on my chaos terminators and obliterators and is tried and true, the only question being whether I should do a purple wash over the pink to tone it down a bit or not. I'm leaning towards yes.
I'm also debating what color to paint the jump/jetpacks. I was originally going to go gold, to match the trim, but I don't know. I want to avoid painting them pink, as I think that will be too much. Black? Purple?
All daemonic flesh will be shadow grey, then purple washed like you see now. Elsewhere in my army I then drybrush with space wolves grey and then drybrush white, but I'm almost liking how it looks here. I may just hit it with a watered down mix of shadow grey and purple for highlight and call it a day.
