So I'm preparing for the Nova Open, and I've been working on a 2000 point list. Normally I like to go for a combination of mech and foot, but for a GT, and especially one on the level of Nova Open, it's better for full mech.
HQ
Eldard
Autach with fusion gun.
Elites
5 Fire Dragons
-DT Wave Serpent, TL Scatter, Spirit Stones
5 Fire Dragons
-DT Wave Serpent, TL Scatter, Spirit Stones
Troops
5 Dire Avengers
5 Dire Avengers
10 Storm guardians, 2 Flamers Warlock, Destructor
-DT Wave Serpent, TL Scatter, Spirit Stones
10 Storm guardians, 2 Flamers Warlock, Destructor
-DT Wave Serpent, TL Scatter, Spirit Stones
Fast Attack
2 Vypers, EML
1 Vyper, EML
Heavy
Falcon, EML
Falcon, EML
3 War Walkers, 2 EML.
Total 1999
I have the Autarch in there so I can reserve and alpha strike because reserves are gonna' be on 3+. And we all know why Eldard is in there too.
This list has 12 vehicles, 6 AV12, and 6 AV 10. 9 of those can turbo boost too, so that's always great for late objective contests.
Thoughts?

Eldard is my favorite character! but anywho, I would drop the storm guardians in exchange for 2 Squads of 10 dire avengers with an exarch with bladestorm. But to get the dire avengers your going to have to drop Spirit Stones on your waveserpents or you could change from EMLs on your vypers to scatter lasers to save a little bit of points too. With their BS 3 you won't be hitting too much with the EMLs

I agree with helvost. Drop the Storm guardians they arent worth it. Then use the points to turn the 2, 5man squads of dire avengers into 2 ten man squads but keep the Wave Serpents they allow the DA's to get to where their going, disembark and unleash a bladestorm.
Other notes put all of the Vypers into one squad and instead of usingscatter laser as helvost suggested id use Shuriken cannons. Sure they dont get as many shots but the fact that they pin as well is a huge help. Final note. in my opinion falcons are only really worth the point if they are carrying something so if i were you i would switch them for fire prisms with holofields. the combined large blast kills marines on a 2+ and the S10 blast/ 2 S9 blasts will rip open any armour that the fire dragons miss out on.
hope this helps

1. Well I much prefer the Storm guardians. Statistically a blade storming dire avenger squad will put out the same amount of damage to a 5 man MEQ squad(10 wounds), but the dire avengers won't be able to shoot next turn, but the guradians can still assault with double the attacks, and the power to take out vehicles with a STR 9 witchblade. Although Dire Avengers have better stats and a better armor save, I still like my guardians. And that's only against 5 man T4 squads. However the guardians can do a lot more damage against hordes, because they shoot at more of them with the templates.
2. I don't want to put all of the vypers in one squad. I want to be able to turbo boost for different objectives. There is 2 vypers in one squad, so that can help them survive on kill points. I also like to have the missiles, because of the physiological effect they have on the enemy because I can move 12 inches and fire, there's this whole bubble of fear that people have, not to mention I can also fire it as a frag, which can help with BS.
3. Falcons are good, and thats why the 5 man dire avengers are in the transports. There good for objectives and stuff.
4. Shuriken Cannons aren't pinning. I'm not sure where you got that idea. Are you thinking of Shrieker cannons, the death jester weapon?

The only thing i'm going to disagree with you about is the Storm Guardians vs. Dire Avengers. After you bladestorm if your close to the enemy you can charge and tie them up for a while & possibly win if you kill enough before hand, or you can try to keep your distance of 18" so that way they can't counter charge. After you blade storm don't worry about reloading, just hop back into your wave serpent. The wave serpent can still move and fire after you embark, so it lets you keep your dire avengers protected & be on the move.

Well, Eldar is good at smaller pt levels but they don't scale very well when it comes to larger pt levels like 2000 pts.
The vehicles are overpriced and troops are meh.
If you want to be competitive, take an MSU army with lots of Serpents.
Eldrad is not really needed, a Farseer with runes of warding should suffice.
How about a Seer Council to take on nasty enemy units?

I know Eldar aren't as good at bigger levels, but it's either these guys or Necrons.
A seer council could be good, but I'm not going to put them on jetbikes, because I don't have the moniez to buy them or the actual desire to have them. But I would be okay with an on foot on in a Serpent. What would you recommend I drop so that I can have one?

I'd take a Council consisting of Fortuneseer with both runes
and 8 Warlocks (2x embolden, 1x enhance).
This is the standard loadout which I'm using.
Its a bit more challenging to play but also more rewarding.
Eldrad is probably not the best leader of a Council since he cannot FoF.
I'd drop one unit of Storm Guardians, one Vyper, and replace Eldrad by a Fortuneseer.

That could be good, but I worried about the loss of troops. That only brings me down to 3 scoring units. which aren't very survivable outside of there transports. I think a sqaud of 7 would be best with a 2 rune, fortuneseer, and 1 enhance 2 embolden, and 2 destructor with 2 spears.
From there I could drop 1 of the vyper for a 5 man dire avenger sqaud. No transport just a backfield objective holder. I wouldn't less than 4 troops.

Well, I won an RTT with just 2 troops: 2x10 DA mounted in Serpents.
But a GT is certainly a different dimension.

I know and that's the problem I'm having.
Less troops or more of a close combat punch.
