So I guess my main question is if I'm building a Lizardmen army how many blocks of Saurus should I take? Also how many skink skimirsher units? I ask because in 40k its all about spamming small troop choices. I built a sample 2000 point list on AB earlier today and I met the minimum points I had to spend with 2 20 blocks of saurus and 2 units of 10 skink skirmisher units. Is that about right?

At 2k you are going to want bigger blocks then 20. 8th edition is all about massive blocks of troops crashing into each other. I can't give you much advice as I don't play lizzies, and don't play against them too much but the basic idea is 30+ per unit. My dwarfs I like to have at 35-40+ and my skaven at 40-50+.

It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

So 2 blocks of 30+? Or should I try to spend more points in core to get more blocks?

Wish I could tell you more, not to familiar with Lizzies, hey you're in Lodi. I'm in Brentwood, you should try and make it out to the Antioch GW sometime.

You want fewer decent sized blocks for staying power and cutting back on command costs. I would even say 2 blocks of 30-40 with spears would do you well. These will grind down your enemies whilst your slann and ( most likely ) temple guard block and dinosaurs/skinks do damage.

Thanks for the input guys. Also are spears worth it on the Saurus? I've only played 2 games so far and I'm not too up on the weapons rules. Basically an extra rank gets to fight if the unit is charged?

An extra rank gets to fight with spears at all times. So that's 15 attacks if your fighting 5 wide. And think that makes for a good unit with saurus stats. Plus you can always reform to suit your situation in the battle.

@Hargus yeah I've been a couple times to play some 40k. Maybe we could arrange a meet up! also do you think the 10 man skirmisher units are too small?

I run 2x10 skirmishers and 2x5 Chameleon skinks, they work wonders
As for the saurus question, i run mine in a horde of 40 with hand weapons+shield, i like the extra 6+, it's not much but it can be useful, plus it's free

Not quite. They get an extra rank as long as they themselves are not charging. In subsequent rounds, they will still get the extra attacks.
