Hello! I just watched some battle reports on youtube of epic, and it was, well, epic. Its like everything I wanted warhammer 40k to be. HUGE

So I headed on over to the GW website, looking to get me some Imperials. And found out how massively expensive it is. I mean, 40 euro for 10 tanks that I could easily lose down the back of my sofa. Is this the norm for 6mm games? is it reall that expensive?

I was also thinking of getting a mate to go halfs with me on some models, and recasting them. Is it easy to recast 6mm models?

Unfortunately, yes, it is that expensive for tanks from GW.

HOWEVER! I give you: EXODUS WARS!

I give you the Guild Achilles Main Battle Tank. A quite fantastic replacement for Lemans Russes, and only 15.95. How's that for a deal?

And if you're looking for more Epic, Ebay is your friend.

It's the norm for GW games.

Buy some other company's 6mm and you will have more lead on your table and more cash in your wallet.

As demonstrated by infinite_array's post.

Baccus6mm do an SF range too.

In 6mm games you have a lot more choices of which models to use. GW don't have such a lead in quality (in fact there are a lot better 6mm ranges) and the differences aren't so obvious at this scale.

If you want IG vehicles it should be very easy to find some historical minis that look the same at 6mm.

If you are interested in 6mm sci fi I suggest that you look into some other rulesets as well as Epic. Since you won't get any support from GW there is no reason to stick with them if you find rules that you prefer. There are a lot of rules which are more popular, some of which are free to download.

P.s. Recasting miniatures isn't legal and so isn't looked kindly on by Dakka. I would imagine it is very difficult as even a small inperfection would have a huge effect.

As others have said, do not feel that you are tied to GW product.

Exodus Wars and Baccus are very nice, but try Ground Zero games and their Dirtside/Future Wars ranges - plus the rules are free. Irregular miniatures are cheap and look okay when painted - my IG is built from their army pack of WW1 Turks.

AS for vehicle as well as the sci fi ranges look at the ww2 and moderns.6mm is a doddle to convert compared to its big 28mm brother.

Rules wise apart from Epic A and Dirtside 2 mentioned above, Baccus have their own free set Command Horizon, but you may also want to look at Future War commander.

Best idea is to shop around for a small intro force, get them on the table abd see if it suits.

Look at this thread for an idea about using non-GW figures for Epic.

Were there be dragons....

If you want Historical style games I would vouch for Baccus 6mm anyday and GHQ for modern/WW2

Really its not that bad. Sure somethings on the GW site are odd and bizarre like the $60 SM Landing Craft. But really is $50 for a Tank Company isn't so bad? That's 750 points of a 3000 points standard army! I mean for $200-$300 you can have a solid Tournament list. Can you say that about 40k? Ummm No! You need to drop what $1000 for most army builds? And if your careless enough to lose your model down a sofa there bigger issues I think. =)

GW prices for their EA game are pretty rediculous. They were even rediculous way back when they were released. GW was so greedy with this stuff that people started using spincasters to make their own and sell them on eBay.

Your right that its pricey but compared to the Core Games Epic and BFG are CHEAP to get into. I mean for one Awesome 40k army I can easily have 3 Awesome Epic armies.

Surf around for bargains. Ebay or your local equivilent (Trademe here in NZ). I've picked up massive armies both 6mm and 28mm scale for bugger all. Try $56 NZD ($46 USD) for a 2000 point SM army! (28mm), and i've spent around $500 NZD buying up 6mm stuff and now have 18k or Orks, 6k of Marines, 6k of Guard, 6k of Eldar, 1k of Chaos and 8k of Titan Legion, that includies 3 Mega Gargants, 2 Great Gargants, 3 Slasha gargants, 2 Imperators, 3 Phantoms, 1 Warlock, 1 Warlord, 2 Warhounds and 2 Revenants! Seek and you shall find!

"You smell dat? Do you smell dat? Napalm, son. Nofing else in da galaxy smells like dat. I love da smell of napalm in da morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' 'ummie body. Da smell, you know dat gasoline smell, da whole hill. Smelled like... victory."
