I'm looking to make an epic Praetorian guard army (just for fun), and wondered if anyone can advise me on a good manufacturer for figures?

I Know Irregular Miniatures do them, and I was going to try and pick some up at Vapnartak in February. Has anyone else bought these?, are they good casts?, are there others that are better?

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Jayce

Baccus 6mm have a new Colonial range and look very nice. I have a Napoleonic Russian army from them.

Thanks Killkrazy, will certainly check them out.

May I ask, what are the casts & detail like on the figures you bought?

It's fine considering they are 6mm. 6mm isn't about detail, it's about masse.

The figures have got recogniseable hats with pompoms, faces, guns, hands, bayonets, and major uniform bits. They don't have individual buttons and things.

In my Russian army, a single 60mm square base of infantry has 48 figures on it, or 18 on a cavalry base.

To look at it another way, a single 6mm figure is a similar size to the hand on a GW "heroic" 28mm model.

The casting quality is good. Baccus is a good company. They are based in Sheffield if you want to visit them. (You have to make an arrangement)

You might also consider Adler Minis. I have a French Napoleonic army from them. Their figures are a bit larger than Baccus and have larger heads, which adds a bit more character.

They don't do Colonials yet.

Why not buy some samples if you want to see the quality before getting a whole army?

Thanks again KillKrazy.

Both Irregular & Baccus will be at Vapnartak, so hopefully I will get to compare them.

I guess the use of the word detail was a bit odd at this scale, I really meant can you see what they are, or are they just squishy blobs with bits sticking out. Thankfully you where able to explain what I meant.

Jayce.

Your best bet is to get a few samples at Vapnartnak.

If you want squishy blobs, go for Irregular's 2mm models.

They don't do colonials, but they are good fun for Ancients. Very cheap and quick to paint. You can base them for DBA 15mm size bases and have really dense formations.

They look superb KilKrazy. I currently use Praetorians in 40k and have a load of epic tanks waiting to be painted, I reckon I'll order some of those to recreate my army in epic scale.

Well the bachuss infantry arrived, they are very nice, lots of detail for such small figs, They look nicer than the others linked too.

I started painting last night and have done a few tanks and a few infantry bases.

After some research it seems lots of people (legally) choose round bases for troops rather than the GW strips, Thios looks more natural imo so thats what I've done.

Will try and take a few pics to show what I've done.
