The more i read about the grey Knights the more i hate them. They seem to be the most broken army out there right now. Any one else think so?

They used to be awesome, before a certain person got his grimy claws on the codex.

I was looking forward to the codex. Then I saw the codex. I have since traded the few GKs I had previously bought because the book was so crappy (not in term of power, just pure crap). I'll admit the inquisition army is cool. But the GKs suck.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

They're not broken. They die like anyone else. People whine too much. OP, have you ever actually played against them?

I was forced to play a round with them because my friend running them got called into work unexpectedly. He (I) ran a full Paladin army against DE. The murder that ensued would have made Darth Vader blush. Not a single GK survived. They aren't broken, but boy are they crap.

Oh no! He's got an army of Paladins slowly advancing on foot towards my army! What do I do!? Oh wait, I know, demolishers. Demolishers everywhere. Never leave home without em. I wouldn't want to fight GK with Marines if we were going to be fighting hand to hand - I'll agree that they've got the upper hand there. They still die like Marines though, so any plasma, melta, power weapon, battlecannon, demolisher, rending weapon or what have you will deal with them.

Don't worry, the poison shots ate the GKs alive. I didn't want to play them anyway-left a bad taste in my mouth. I didn't really try too hard to win...

They're far from broken.

Space Wolves and Imperial Guard are still the top two armies by a goodly margin.

I personally think gks are broken. I also think they are easy to play.

Psycannons and rifle dreds are 100% mathmatically broken.

anyone who has actually faced them will know they arn't broken.

The codex, rules wise, is a very balanced one. it has a good mix of units and weaponry mixes.

the Fluff is, as always, a personal thing.

to be honest, Mat Wards fluff gets alot more hate then it deserves. things get blown WAY out of proportion.

yes, he could have left the sister incident out, but everything else is fair to ok in quality(and the Sister incident is actually quite vague. the sisters could actually have been willing sacrifices. heck, it never actually says they were killed)

Draigo also gets more hate then he deserves. yes, he is abit Mary Sue, but every book has one(Yarrick, Calgar, Ghaz, Eldrad, Drazhar, Mephiston...)

Not only they're not broken, some of their rules are actually pretty good. Not to mention that their minis are amazing.

However, they're probably my least favorite army. And it's beacause of the fluff.

But no, it's not because of Matt Ward alone. It's just that I feel that their connection to the WH40k universe is, at best, tenuous. While other armies can go at each other for whatever reason imaginable, Grey Knights will only get into the fray if there are Daemons involved. Other races are having a blast massacring each other while the Knights run their little private sideshow. And this is a severe restriction when you try to make something creative out of your 40k engagements.

My group of friends uses to run long, narrative-driven campaigns (that usually end in a huge apocalypse battle). However, since Grey Knights armies started arriving to my wargaming group, these campaigns revolve mostly around daemons. Every Waaagh, planetary insurrection or Eldar plot must have a daemon at its core, if only to justify the presence of the Men in Grey. I've tried to turn the tide by penning a campaign in which the Knights (and their Imperial Fists allies) nearly-exterminate an untainted imperial world because of the extremely literal interpretation of a local legend... but beyond this I'm out of ideas.

Tl:dr -> The Knights are a fine, balanced army, but they still upset the balance at a narrative level.

If I recall in the "Hate for Sisters" thread some one quoted that entry in the GK codex and it went something like this "and they turned their weapons on the sisters". While martyrdom is common among sisters there was not a single suggestion that the sisters went willingly.

I don't really have any kind of problem with them. Not a big fan of the 'we kill everyone who knows about the demons we fight' thing, but what can you do? Other armies have bigger holes in their backstory.

but it is extremely vague and is simply taken down the path of least resistance.

I don't hate them so much as, I think, they just seem less 'Lawful Good' than I would expect of incorruptible space marines... having said that I do like most of the rules and don't doubt that someday I will play them ... hopefully pull out a win or 2 ... haven't played in a long time.

Grey Knights turn my stomach. I could never play them. I wouldn't refuse to play against them, but I'd do my darnedest to make sure every last one of those... those THINGS, die. I don't give a damn if I tie or even lose the game on objectives, just so long as I kill as many as possible.

Of course, that's after being reminded of the Bloodtide incident. Prior to my knowledge of the part where they murdered the Battle Sisters for no reason, I liked their minis and had even considered starting an army of them. I even liked the Dreadknight mini - and still kinda do. Now though, seeing their month's White Dwarf in my bathroom makes me nauseous and angry. I even had a metal terminator with halberd and stormbolter which I had painted - and quite nicely, too - while I was going to school at a psychiatric hospital. Now though, now he's been mutilated. Kinda regret doing it now.

Jesus Christ the shift key is right there on your keyboard, it would go a long way to making your posting bearable. You can also try spellchecking your posts.

Why do you hate the dreadknight? It's a bit tougher to take down, but it's damn near impossible for it to get a cover save so heavy weapons can have a field day.

I really, really don't understand why people complain about the Dread Knight being broken. I've dropped that thing many times with Heavy Weapons on any of my armies. My Dark Elder, Black Templars and even my freggin Tyranids don't have a problem against it.

I always thought that might be a Grey Knight with a Battle Sister hat.

Although for some reason, now I laugh at your avatar because it's silly, and the laughter conflicts with the nausea in a very confusing way that makes me doubt the purity of my soul even more.

I loved them when they were part of the Daemonhunters Codex, and was very excited about the new one, but when it came out and I got to take a look through it, I refused to pick it up. Rulewise, they're not bad at all - in fact, they're a much-needed beefing up of a force that was suffering from codex creep, and badly.

However, I'm one of the gamers that considers the fluff just as important as the rules, and I was horribly disappointed with the new fluff. Bloodtide's been ripped to hell and back in far too many threads already, but the other bits in there fleshed out a previously mysterious army - in all the wrong ways. I feel as though the grim defenders of the Imperium have instead become Mary Sue-ish psychopaths, which saddens me. It's a complete reversal of the previous codex - from limited but well thought out fluff and horribly outdated rules to up-to-date and playable rules but horrid and poorly thought out fluff.

There is one thing in the codex that confuses me. The points costs. A 5 man marine tactical squad without upgrades is just 10 poins less than a 5 man grey knight squad without upgrades and the grey knights have more equipment and rules. Just confusing. Have not played against them so can't really say if it's wrong or not.

I shall rule the world someday utilizing my cuteness. And I already have one minion to help me do it!

I used to like Grey knights, hell I was on the edge of pulling the trigger on the army, they looked cool(power glaives, not swords) the fluff was interesting, albeit it would be a pain in the ass to fit into a campaign, but Ive seen and experienced worse, what did it for me was the random stuff and less eliteness of them, though I have to give Ward props on the fact in his codexes there arent any units that are utterly unusable, however his fluff leaves something to be desired.

In other news, no, I don't think the codex is that broken, but the fluff leaves a lot to be desired. Still, such is fluff when it must appeal to hyperactive 14-year-olds.
