I'm doing a new paint scheme on my SM army and I'm wondering what I should use for stripping of the old paint scheme?

Thanks

I notice your from England so you can get hold of Nitromors from any hardware store. Go for the original in the green container. It's highly potent stuff so glove up with rubber gloves, submerge mini's in the liquid, leave for five or ten minutes, rinse off in sink of warm water and don't get splashy splashy cos as I said this gear is pretty aggressive. Don't use it on plastics though or they'll melt. Use regular Dettol for plastics.
If it doesn't remove all the paint just repeat the process but I've never found any paint that can stand up to it. It's designed to remove soaked in lead paint from timber so old acrylic doesn't stand a chance. It's a bit pricey but worth it's weight in gold.
Good luck.

The regular brown dettol strips metal and plastic like a dream.

I mix mine 50:50 with water to give you a bit more volume for your money. Even have 30 minutes paint starts to come off. Buy the big bottle and a large plastic tub, chuck in your models and top up with water, leave it over night and just brush off the paint in the morning.

Any paint which doesn't come off, just chuck the model back in.

Depends how much you want to strip in one go. I think I have the 500ml bottle and can strip maybe 20-30 models at once, which is a good amount to sit and scrub with a toothbrush at once. I don't know how long it will remain "effective", so if you are needing to strip a lot of stuff, or lots of stuff at once, you might want to get more.

Boots Acetone Free Nail Polish works a treat for me, buy a couple of bottles and a large tupperware box, empty x amount of bottles in the box, put your models in there close the lid, shake about a little, then go in with a toothbrush and brush off the paint

Regular brown dettol, a container you can seal to soak them in (unless you like your house to smell of antiseptic) and tesco (and i would assume other supermarkets) do toothbrushes 2 for 10p which work to scrub all the horrible paint gunk off.

If you have a lot of models to do either stock up on toothbrushes or clean them after a few minis, mine seemed to reach a critical mass of paint mess where i was just moving the gunk around not getting rid of it. So since i was moving gunk around I've had to give some of them a second soak.

For plastic the best product is Biostrip20, which is reviewed

and here:

it works well on metal too. I wouldn't say it is quite as fast as Nitromors but I personally think it does a better job, especially for deep crevices, and it is safe to use on plastic which Nitromors isn't. Dettol is okay too, but biostrip20 is better.

Runnin up on ya.

I know this is off-topic and I'll be sent to the lower planes of hell for this but, it popped into my head and of course I had to share it (this being the internet and all). Please forgive me but here goes...

"What should I use to strip my models?"
I find that a nice bottle of wine and some soft music helps.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do
