Anyone got any good ideas for making your own commisar? not a fan of metal models. Anything with GS is out of the question for me, I don't have any, and i'm sure my sculpting of it would awful.

If you look at the cadian command squad: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440247a&prodId=prod1850000 that guy all the way on the left (he's probably supposed to be the company commander) looks mostly like a Commisar to me. If you painted him up in black w/ red trim and gave him a suitable weapon, I can't imagine anyone complaining.
GW also has two commisars (okay, one is Yarrick) as Finecast resin. I have zero experience w/ Finecast resin, but from what I've read here if you get a good cast it's much easier to work with than its metal counterpart.

Thanks for the idea. I should have enough of those bodies to make 2 suitable commissars(all I need).
as for the Finecast, yes I've seen them, but as you've mentioned one is Yarrick and the other is the Lord Commissar. I'm sure I could pass the Lord for being a regular commissar but I feel him look to ornate.

I've used hats from 1:35 scale model kits for my IG. You could try to find some WWII Russian kits or German kits for the peaked caps. It takes a little cutting to make it fit, but I think mine look pretty good.

I have used the baneblade commander model as one of my commissars. Gave him a left arm with pistol from a chimera sprue and the power sword arm he comes with.. looks pretty good!

Cadian command squad and the Empire Milita box both have greatcoats (militia has 4 of that body IIRC). And there are peaked caps in the Cadian command and IG vehicle sprues.
I'd say if you're looking to do 1 or 2 go with the Cadians, but if you want to do several the Empire Milita is worth picking up.

get a box of WGF shocktroops or something. They have long coats, all you need to do, I know you said you dont want to, but this is fairly easy, give them a GS red sash. Then use any officer heads you can find, usually, its going to be tank-crews with hats.
I don't know where else to send you for long-coat models....
I used to hate metals too, but then I grew fonder of the higher detail and te satisfying weight to them.

You should have a look at Ailaros's work. You'll find just that and more.

Well the world isn't going to take over its' self now is it? And what kind of achievement will that be without fashionable henchmen? Normally this wouldn't have been a problem, but I had all my fashion designers executed.
Should anyone help design a new flashy uniform, I just might spare you on the day of judgement. MUHAHAHA!

I also thought about using the guy from the command squad with a vox, pointy arm and binos to represent a master of ordinance.

A lot of people have done this, myself included. The actual MoO model is very nice though.

Wow thanks for all the Ideas guys. I'm probably going to go with the IG Company commander for my conversions considering I got 2 more CCS coming in soon.
