I'm looking to start Infinity at some point and I can't seam to decide what faction to go with. I've known about infinity for a while and have 2 models from the infinity range and they are very nice minis. The only thing is that I can't seam to decide between Ariadna or Nomads. For Arianda I like the background, the rough and tough millitary, the costume, character design, and posing of the minis, I just love all the minis in the range, thought they don't have any heavy mechs or hackers i think. On the other hand for the Nomads I like the background, the visual appearance is ok, the big thing I like is that Chimera model, all the other minis in the range are ok to me, and have a nice choice between foot soldiers, AI bots and some mechs and some good hackers from what I've heard.

I'm still split between the two, maybe some of yall can sway my decision.

So you really like the look of all of Ariadna, and only really like the chimera in Nomads?

That seems like a no-brainer from the out-side!

Yeah I decided to go with Ariadna and I ordered the Starter Set from ebay as well.

Ariadna: They usually have better "PH" values, useful for dodging, climbing, fighting... These is one of the most peculiar armies of the game, they have no sci-fi technology at all, no robots, no hackers... they have some old fashioned guns, a lot of cammo troops (not sci-fi invisible, just normal experienced soldiers), even werewolves. They are good at some guerrilla tactics, ambush, courage...
Game Style:They can fill the battleground of hidden cammo troops and surprise the enemy, then hide again.

What to purchase as a beginner? Ariadna Starter Pack, really cool and effective miniatures all of them.


Caledonian Highlander Army Starter Pack, this is a sectorial starter pack army, but it is also playable in the generic ariadnan Army.

Mirage 5: Margot & Duroc, these are para-troopers. The wolf can only appear if his girlfriend goes with him, they usually make a lot of damage to the enemy lines.

I'm also looking into Infinity, and I also like the look of the Ariadna miniatures, specifically the Line Kazaks (might as well start with the basic troopers).

When I look into the different Line Kazaks (Rifle) available, I see some varying miniatures (specifically, 2 different sets of 3)...it seems that one of the sets is older and no longer available.

Is that right?

Possibly, I don't know.

I haven't bee nin Infinity long enough to know exactly which sculpts have been updated but I do know that they have updated sculpts in the past. That being said, finding OOP infinity is ridiculously hard. Due to the love of the game, short period it has been around, and the quality of sculpts you will have issues finding Infinity 2nd hand.

They've publuished these kind of sample army lists for Ariadna, maybe you are interested.

Yup I ordered those models up on TheWarStore when they came out the getting started lists.

The ariadna starting force is an awesome set, though I would take the Chasseur with minelayer for only 1 point and 0.5 SWC extra.

The veteran Kazaks are some of the most expensive models in ariadna for a reason, they kick so much ass.

Yeah, having been on the receiving end of Vet Kaz's a few times... they hurt.

Now THAT is a starter set/army.

Cool models, good in battle, fun to play...

Im getting very tempted to follow the 300pt lines they released and pick up some Combined Army for the wife and Yu Jing for me.

All the startups they posted are a great base to any of the forces and very swappable from there.

Or you could be loony cheap like me and order the Gaunt's Ghosts set from GW (shame on me, I know) for the sole purposes of modelling the Tanith First and Only as an Ariadna troop.

(Hey, only $30 for six models vs. $38 for six slightly-bigger models... hell yeah I jumped on that, even though it supports what many see as an Evil Empire of Wargaming.)

$8 difference for better looking and tourney legal figures? Now taking into account that is a huge portion of your army, so that isn't a repeating $8.

I've already got my Nomads from Bakunin on order (I loves me some warrior nuns without cookie-cutter haircuts--err, Reverend Moiras). This is just something to satisfy my curiosity on how Ariadna plays, as in the demo game I was part of, I played PanO. That, and everybody at my FLGS and their brother seems to be playing Ariadna or ALEPH. Though if I find I really like Infinity, I may assemble a Haqqislam force...

One of the best reasons to play Infinity is for the sick looking models. The Gaunt's Ghosts models just don't compare. They lack detail, dynamic poses, and the sleek aesthetic that even the rough and tumble Ariadna army pulls off. Gaunt's Ghosts are just going to look weird and gawky on the table. Plus GW doesn't need your money, but if you don't support a game by buying its models, it doesn't help the game out at all.

Looking at a side by side comparison, the GW models just don't fit anything in the Infinity world and are woefully inferior in terms of aesthetics. Looking at the Infinity Ariadna Scout model. He's also a cloaked guy with a sniper rifle, but everything about him is better. The level of detail, the dynamic pose, the more realistic style. The GW models just look like bad cartoons in comparison.

[EDIT to add another thought:] My Nomads arrived last night, and with the exception of a few models across the range, they have plain jane slottabases. A visit to Secret Weapon or Dragon Forge for resin bases may well be in order, depending on your modelling skill/amount of time you wish to spend on basing. Troops are on 25mm bases, TAGs and Dog Warriors are on 40mm.

I like the Micro Art Studio bases much better than Dragonforge and Secret Weapon. They have much cleaner sculpts and seem to fit Infinity much better than the other two companies.

You know, a Helghast style color scheme would probably work great for them. Looks like the Haqqislam I just ordered now have a color scheme.
