I've entered my Daemons into a 1500pt tournament in my area, sponsored by GW and ran by my local club. I've had them for a little while and have been focusing on getting them painted rather than thinking about playability. So I haven't played them once yet and I haven't played 40K in a while either. Since I've never played them before I thought I'd come here to see how I should run them and with what. I know for a fact I'll be up against 1 Tau player, 2 IG, 1 Blood Angels, 1 Salamander (with Vulkan), Space Wolves, 2 Orks (1 running death star Nob Bikers), 1 Tyranid and 1 Necron.

I have at my disposal:

1 Bloodthirster
Skulltaker on foot and on Jug
Herald on foot
8 Bloodcrushers
70 Bloodletters
9 Hounds and Karanak
3 Daemon Princes

Are there any strong tournament lists hanging about for mono-Khorne? The problem I have is that I am quite limited against 12+ armour values, and there will be Land Raiders. Monoliths I'm not worried about so much. What do you think?

You are pretty limited with mono-khorne at 1500 but if you deploy aggressively and just keep splattering things in combat you should be ok. I'd suggest this roughly at 1500 with the models you have:

Bloodthirster
2x4 Bloodcrushers
3x Prince with Wings/Hide/MoK
2x12 Bloodletters

All you can do is charge but 4 winged monsters and 2 very hard to bring down crusher units might just shock and awe you a win. I saw a guy use mono-khorne at Throne of Skulls with Daemons and he did not fare well against heavy shooting armies. In order to be effective you have to deploy very aggressively, the following shooting phase from your enemy in a tournament setting could very easily gut you. It sure would be fun though, and get you lots of skulls!

Mono-Khorne is fairly weaksauce because of your Invo saves.

12+ AV You can tear open with MC but it's really all that 5+ that's going to result in mass casualty during the shooting phase.

If you're going to run it, I would run all 3 princes + the thirster so that you can threaten armor, and mass bloodletters so that you can try and swamp them in CC.

Your deepstrikes are going to have to be "no guts no glory" style, since you won't have a lot of speed on the board.

Good luck!

I'm definately not in this tourney for the win. I only play for fun, winning is good but I'm not fussed, as long as I don't do the worst in the entire thing I'm happy

I'll be trying to deepstrike close indeed. I'll be trying to land close enough to run and hug their tanks the turn I come in to limit Ordanance mainly as that will hurt the Crushers.

Seems like I might have to expand the force into a combo with Tzeentch in the future and throw Fateweaver into the mix of things for survivability.

Absolutely. Fatecrusher undivided is definitely a viable strategy. Hell, it's my strategy!

Check out my 'Ard Boyz list, if you want:

The final list that I decided on/will be taking to 'Ard Boyz is down the bottom.

last throne of skulls i went to there was an all khorne army which did pretty well.... as memory serves it was:

bloodthirster with +1str
bloodthirster with +1str
5 units of 8 letters
1 unit of 8 bloodcrushers

8 units that were all 8 strong where possible... even had a fluff reason for the 2 thirsters

that unit of 8 bloodcrushers is MEAN took my entire GK army shooting at it for 2 turns to bring it down to 2 models - who killed a whole GK squad on their own!

the MSU approach seems to work with some daemon armies/players - losing a small squad of letters is not really an issue but still requires a couple of squads worth of shootyness

it has little/no anti tank but hell - its a khorne army... get the monsters or a few rending upgrades in there

just food for thought

Definitely would suggest Blessings of the Blood God on the Bloodthirster, btw, it's fantastic, especially with all these GK running around.

2+ vs Psychic attack wounds is nothing to shake a stick at either, esp. for 5 points.

A unit of 8 Bloodcrushers for me reeks of deep strike mishap and overkill when it gets on the table. But that looks like a great list actually, very fluffy.

I've been contemplating a list and I'm thinking of running this list:

Bloodthirster - Unholy Might
Skulltaker - Juggernaut
4 Bloodcrushers - Icon, Musician
12 Bloodletters - Icon
12 Bloodletters - Icon
12 Bloodletters - Icon
Daemon Prince - Khorne, Wings, Unholy Might, Iron Hide, Blessing

1496pts

Or should I remove the Icons from the troops and split into more squads, like 1x10 and 4x8?

Dropping Skulltaker and one icon off a letter squad should do you better imo. It gives you the points for a four man crusher squad with intrument, fok, and icon. Thirster in one wave and prince in the other, both having a crusher squad to split threats. Should so fairly well. Use terrain to your advantage and avoid gun lines ( make em come to you) should be fun.
