How many Space Marines are there on planet earth ?

How many have been made since GW started, how many are still alive and kicking today. Its got to be in the millions surely ?

Anyone know a figure or a good guesstimate ?




ADDED , did a bit of maths and my guesstimate is that there are about 25 million Space marines still out there somewhere

Ill have a go

taking gross sales to be 100 million a year for the last 25 years

100 million a year
say 50m was miniatures (1/2)
say 25m was 40k (1/2)
say 12.5 was SM stuff (1/2)
say 6.25 was marines (1/2)
say 2.08m @ 3 quid a marine (1/3)

2 million marines a year x 25 years = 50 million marines produced

say half are still alive and kicking = 25 million marines still in circulation ( 100 tons total by weight , 75 million pounds total cost , SM soldiers cost 750,000 pounds a ton that's 1.30p a gram)



so if you have a starter army of 25 marines the you own 1 / millionth of the worlds population

if you have a huge army of 250 marine foot soldiers you have one hundred thousandth of the worlds population





my figures could well be out by a factor of 2 to 4 , but not likely to be out by a factor of 10. So i reckon there must be somewhere between 10 million to 100 million marines still out there on planet earth.

That's a foot slogger army ( upper estimate of 100m ) of roughly 2 billion points , lol

No clue, alot, I suppose if you hunted down sales figures you could guesstimate, but that is too much work for me

Yeah the number is well over 1 million.

Fluff wise, there's a Marine a planet. I'm gonna say the fluff's not lying about the real world either.

More than there are marines in all of the galaxy in-game.

That's... Completely off topic. We all know GW calls for ridiculous amounts of money for relatively few models, but this isn't the place to discuss this.

The OP specifically asked a question; how many SM models do you wager exist? He's also looking for some math on the matter.

Well I think proffit margin is probably the best way to tackle it along with some guestimation(some FLGS owners should chime in as to the percentage of SMs they sell compared to everything else)

You forget that there are uncounted millions of Space Marines in 6mm scale from the Epic line of games.

I was thinking only of the large scale SM figures

2 billion pts? Ok, give me a couple months, several crates of plasticard, and a (really big)can of red spray paint and I will have a ramshackle stompa army to match

Now to find my hobby knife...
